Same thing really. the real turning point in rebuilding will be when we move Wright for a good prospect. What kind of irks me is that people expect guys like Wheeler and Harvey to come up and immediately turn into Bob Gibson and Juan Marichal. Even with Seaver and Koosman, it was a couple of years. In in 1986, tiy could say the turning point was the trade for Keith and the emergence of Darryl and that was in 1986. We should start to see some of the current top prospects by 2014 and begin to seriously compete (hopefully for a long time) by 2017.

Seaver came up in '67. Koosman in '68. Agee came in a trade in '68. Mets were WS Champs in '69.

Keith came in a trade in '84. Darling's 1st full season was '84. Sid Fernandez came in a trade in '84. Carter in a trade in '85. Ojeda came in '86. Mets were WS champs in '86.

If the young pitchers come up in 2013 and 2014 and the Mets make some good trades for other positions, they can really be competitive in 2015.

"Bet your idea of fun is a car crash and a funeral"

He must seriously identify with Bud Court's character in "Harold and Maude."

The car crash waas the day we let Reyes walk...the funeral will be the day Wright signs a ridiculous contract extension.

I'm a big Reyes fan and I believe letting him go was a mistake. That said, he's gone and we need to move on.

I do take exception however, to you constantly claiming he said "pay me one dollar more". Reyes' denied it, his agent denied it, Alderson has never claimed it was said. There is only one person on the planet who ever claimed he said it. It is not a fact, it's hearsay from a source without much credibility.

I think Wright should be resigned to a market value contract for the same reason I believed Reyes should be, exceptional home-grown talent should be kept in the organization.

"The car crash waas the day we let Reyes walk"

"...let Reyes walk." How come Reyes signed so fast with the Marlins? How come he didn't give the Mets some time to make a counter offer?

He gave them an entire season. We should have signed him in the spring of 2011.

"He gave them an entire season. We should have signed him in the spring of 2011"

No...he didn't. Once the 2011 season started he said he wouldn't negoitiate with the Mets until after the season. That told the Mets he was hellbent on being a FA looking for a big payday, and had no intention of giving the Mets any "hometown discount."

The Mets didn't sign him before the season because he was out for 40% of their games in the previous couple of seasons with injuries. I think the "wait and see" attitude after the 2010 season was the correct one from where the Mets stood. Reyes had a career year in 2011 (his walk year). Time will tell if he can do it again...and stay healthy.

This whole "hometown discount" is a bunch of BS. When you have one of the top players in the game, you lock him up and screw the discount.

What if that top player is a leader who doesn't like to lead...

Lives on talent...

Constantly hurt...

Pimps doubles

Sat on the top step and sulked through collapse #1

Was never clutch until his contract year?

Puts himself into run downs he don't run down

Gave us twelve rivals

Ya know Omar only cared about talent too right?

Reyes contract is 6/$106 million, not $120 million.

According to "sources," Reyes was willing to give the Mets a "hometown discount" -- from the NY Daily News:

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2012/03/dont-listen-to-david-samson-reyes-was-open-to-five-year-deal-from-mets

"When Miami Marlins president David Samson said Tuesday that Jose Reyes was after every dollar in free agency, that seemed to contradict the shortstop’s December complaint that the Mets “didn’t want me,” and other statements about his affection for New York and the Mets.

"He said, 'I really want to play in Miami as long as you pay me $1 more than anyone else," Samson said to a group of Miami business leaders. "‘I really want to make the most money I can.’”

But people close to Reyes have long insisted that was not the case. According to sources, Reyes would have strongly considered a somewhat smaller deal from the Mets, both in years and dollars, and was shocked when his longtime team did not make an offer."

But then Jose signed with the Marlins in a big effin' hurry, never giving the Mets the time or opportunity to put together a counter offer.

As for "When you have one of the top players in the game, you lock him up," I think the Mets were correct to hesitate to do that with a guy who missed 40% of the team's games in the previous couple of seasons. 28 other teams didn't chase after Jose either.
