"Still waiting to hear the final details, but it looks like the Mets will pay this year, all bonuses, AND extra to cut him."
They will not pay it all this year.
"It's funny, Heyman and Sherman are reporting the same thing, a total of $21 million, but Heyman is reporting the deferral is "over a relatively short period of time, meaning it won't linger on the team's books like Bobby Bonilla's contract." "
Bonilla's deferment saved money, when you could in inflation/time value of money
>>>"That's not true. Joe Sherman reported it's $21 million. All salary, signing bonus and buy out will be paid. What we don't know is how much was deferred."<<<
That is athe way I have heard it too. He gets all he is owed, it is just a matter of deferring some of it. From what I heard the bulk of the $21 million will be paid out in 2013 - though do don't know yet what the "bulk" means yet. Could be that they pay him his $16 million salary next year, and then deferred the buyout and signing bonus money. We shall see. But good decision for both side to get this resolved and both side move on to a fresh start.
