Ha ha, J.B. Shuck pitched the last inning for Oklahoma City in the 20 run game. Even better; he's the only one to not give up a run or even a baserunner among all the guys that pitched.

The GCL is literally a training camp for A ball and nothing more. Wins and losses don't matter, and stats don't matter. It is intended to only be a league that gives young rookies an opportunity to work out their game mechanics and get some exposure before moving up to Tri City and then Low A.

Therefore let's not freak out about Correa. It's pretty safe to assume he'll only play at Greenville for the majority of next season, with maybe a promotion to Tri City in July/August. Therefore he isn't likely to get a taste of Lexington ball(which is when stats REALLY matter) until mid 2014 at best, and isn't probable to make Lancaster before opening day 2015. Followed by a Corpus Christi call-up in late 2015, all leading up to a (hopefully) cup of coffee in the show by mid 2016.

Yeah Correa has a long ways to go, But we all knew that. So calm down about his GCL stats. They're about as important as...(Fill in joke/punchline here)

Boy oh boy, 20 runs. Nothing to talk about on the pitching side, aside from Shuck tossing an inning (a perfect one, how about that?) Four game hit streak for Barnes, a .862 OPS over his last ten games. Paredes is also on a four game hit streak with seven hits in that span. Five game hit streak for F-Mart, he's hitting .406/.441/.500 over his last ten games. Wallace has a 1.169 OPS over his last ten games.

Much better start for Doran in his second outing in AA, quality start and no walks. 1.6 BB/9 in his first two starts. Villar is hitting .304 during his last six games. Four game hit streak for Muren, he's hitting .326/.383/.418 since his promotion, still looking for his first AA homer. Nine walks in Singleton's last ten games, he's whiffed six times in his last four games though.

Santana has 12 hits in the last seven games, and is hitting .317/.383/.463 over his last ten games. King George has a .325/.417/.450 line during his last ten games, with a bomb, a triple and three steals.

First non-quality start for Folty since May 19th, it was a nice run. Fortunately we still seem improvements; working six innings and not walking a ton of people despite not being at his best is a great sign, we didn't see this last season. Now has a 2.51 ERA, 3.3 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 96.2 IP. How about DeShields? No hits, one walk, and he still manages to swipe three. Electric. 57-for-65 (87.7%) now in SB attempts. He's also walked nine times in ten games.

Great day for in Tri-City. Velasquez was excellent again, first six inning start since the TJ surgery. Currently has a 1.76 ERA, 8.2 H/9, 1.8 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 through his first three starts, awesome to see. Gulbransen is hitting .344/.488/.594 during his first ten pro games, wow. And the first bomb for him. Elkins has a .938 OPS during his first twelve games; he's only walked twice, but he's also only whiffed four times. Slam for Morales, second bomb in nine games; he has a .977 OPS during nine games this year. We saw solid average and good OBP from him in the past, but power was the question; now he's showing that too early on. 1.091 OPS for Aplin during his first 11 pro games.

Nice day for Ovando, .364/.408/.523 in 11 games this season. Another bomb for Martinez today; he is hitting .313/.378/.531 in his first nine pro games. Another strong start for Richard Rodriguez, he has a 2.65 ERA, 2.1 BB/9 and 11.7 K/9 in his first three starts, very nice.

What do you know about Angel Ibanez? He went to school here at UT Pan American.

None of the short-season guys have more than 10-12 games or 2-3 starts or whatever, so I'll hold off doing a monthly report for those teams until the July edition.

Not a heck of a lot, honestly. 28th round guy, but maybe going to a minor school like that had him under the radar. Michael Martinez was playing 3B until Ibanez got to Greeneville, so I'm guessing he's at least a better defender than MM.

Here's his numbers in college: www.utpabroncs.com/custompages/Baseball%20Stats/career/histcarr.htm#17

And a story on him: www.progresstimes.net/news/local-news/2436-a-dream-fulfilled-angel-ibanez-drafted-by-astros.html

That's about all I have...

Andew Aplin keeps impressing. He is 15-33 on the season with 7 RBI and 11 runs scored. He also has 7 SB and has walked 7 times to 1 strikeout. I know it is early but I wanna see what he can do at higher levels.

Very encouraging especially considering his best skill is his defense.

Aplin is probably the one who ends up moving through the system the quickest from this draft class. Not counting Fontana of course.

I've got tickets to tonight's Corpus Christi Hooks game, but I can't go. Game starts in an hour and a half. If anybody in here lives in the area and wants them, let me know.

Short notice, obviously. But the offer stands!

just look at the other shortstops.
manny machado drafted in 2010 and went to A ball the next year
francisco lindor drafted last year and went straight to A ball this year
same with correa hopefully next year

It's just as well. The value of the tickets is far less than the ammount you would owe on speeding tickets accrued during your hour and a half drive from Houston to Corpus.

I would have to average a speed of 148 MPH to make it in 1.5 hours.

Well obviously the club will want to move Correa as quickly as possible so Im sure he could be in Lexington at some point next year, I just highly doubt it's Opening Day he starts there. Im probably wrong in that he'll likely skip Greenville and move to Tri-City next season, with a possible jump to Lexington by June-July. Keep in mind the club's not gonna be in that big of a rush to move him up because of guys like Jiovanni Mier and Jonathan Villar, there is definitely no shortage of SS's in the system.
