Curious.Why do you say,"Mattingly for sure,as for Garvey,you have to put in Clark,Rice,Murphy,Dawson and Belle before him"...When Garvey had more hits,RBI`s,homers,and scored more runs than Mattingly?In addition,before Ripken came along had the longest consecutive games played streak in NL history,5 100 RBI seasons and 6 200 hit seasons?.
Personally,I don`t think EITHER one should go in,not while Gil Hodges still waits with his 372 homers and 7 100 RBI seasons,in addition to being generally recognized as the greatest fielding first baseman of his generation.But if its Donnie or Garv,the numbers back Garvey.
