Curious.Why do you say,"Mattingly for sure,as for Garvey,you have to put in Clark,Rice,Murphy,Dawson and Belle before him"...When Garvey had more hits,RBI`s,homers,and scored more runs than Mattingly?In addition,before Ripken came along had the longest consecutive games played streak in NL history,5 100 RBI seasons and 6 200 hit seasons?.
Personally,I don`t think EITHER one should go in,not while Gil Hodges still waits with his 372 homers and 7 100 RBI seasons,in addition to being generally recognized as the greatest fielding first baseman of his generation.But if its Donnie or Garv,the numbers back Garvey.

Ok.But on the other hand to that,are the ones who ARE in the Hall,simply because they played long!..I don`t agree with it either.It sickens me to see Don Sutton and Phil Niekro for example enshrined!..And in Sutton`s case,i`m a Dodger fan!...But in no way,did I ever consider him a "great" pitcher,good and times very good,but never great.And I`m of the believe,you only enshrine the "greats" of this game,not the ones who played a long time and were very good.

Robinson did a great thing for Blacks in baseball, but come on, the argument that a guy like Mays would never have had a shot had it not been for Robinson is plain dumb.

You have to figure SOMEONE would have been the first black at some point. The Brooklyne Dodgers and Jackie Robinson happened to be the lucky match

Was just a dig at Zitocain.But actually,its not that far a stretch.Jackie came along in 1947,Willie 4 years later.Now what if it wasn`t Jackie,and the first black came along and failed?....It could have been 10-20 years before the color line was broke.Heck,it was what,1959 before the Red Sox had their first black player,Pumpsie Green?..So yeah,if not for Jackie,Willie just might have been another Buck o`Neil or Josh Gibson.
So really,"luck" didn`t really have as much to do with it as the vision of Dodger Exec Branch Rickey,and the greatness of Dodger Jackie Robinson.
