I wouldn't go that far - Headley's away numbers look reasonable - of course, it can be difficult to really get a read on NL West players with such extreme parks - San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles being pitchers parks and Coors being an extreme hitter's park.

But I agree that he'd probably cost us too much right now - our farm system is pretty dry, Richards must be untouchable (otherwise, we have no depth at all), and Segura, while he's got appeal, probably won't get it done by himself.

Headley makes 3.4M, Izzy 3.9M, Callaspo 3.1M so they are close Money wise. San Diego would want one of the Angels top 15 prospects and maybe Callaspo if they don't have a replacement for Headley within their organization. Can Segura put up Headley type offensive numbers?

I think the Angels would have to have another team interested in either Izzy or Callaspo before they trade for another third baseman.

He may be better than Callaspo but how much are you willing to give up for that upgrade? A top prospect(s)? They did say they wanted a lot. Also NL numbers are skewed high, imho.

And the Angel switch hitter hit 309/368/436 away from Anaheim last year. Since Callaspo stopped splitting time, he's hitting how he typically hits.. 300/400/450 over the last four weeks.

Also, the parks in the AL West are harder to hit in than parks in the NL West.

So how much better is Headley?

I agree that on paper, both defensively, and offensively, they are close.

Where Headly is an upgrade - in MY opinion - is the stats that chicks dig, like HRs, RBIs, stolen bases, age, and height.

Headly would be an upgrade - especially over the STUPID platoon of Callaspo & Izturis. ( Where neither one of them gets proper playing time, because of Scioscia's numbskull penchant for trying - Unsuccessfully, I must add - to keep each of them "fresh".)

As long as either one of Callaspo or Izturis is also traded - not necessarily for Headly, but more likely for relief help - than Headly should be a welcome compliment to the team.

We agree that Headley is an upgrade. Probably not huge, probably not significant, but measurable. Which means it can be measured. It's not going to be a six of one or half dozen of the other. Headly will like be a little better.

We agree our 2012 Angels would be a better team if we could get Headley for minor league players.

We agree that Scioscia needs to put a third basemen out there and keep him there.

What a tool you are! He doesn't show up because he doesn't have the qualified number of PA's. Change your filter to "170" min PA and he shows up. Granted he's down the list presently but I see that as a reflection of reduced playing time. You use that argument quite a bit about other players.

Further, if you change your filter to 2011 you'll see Callaspo was better than Headly last year when they both played regularly. Callaspo had the best dWAR in the league last year.

Headly IS NOT a significant upgrade over Callaspo. They are pretty even.

Even if Headley was a significant upgrade over Callaspo, we arent flush in any area of our organization that we could afford to give up much. I value Segura and Calhoun's potential over Headley. We wont sign Callaspo next year and we probably wont sign Hunter, either. So, both of them will fit in our 25 man roster very soon.

I say stay the course. AND FRICKIN PLAY CALLASPO EVERY DAY!!!!!!!

All three are some of the toughest parks in baseball to hit in, with petco arguably the toughest. Our division is difficult as well, Angel stadium, oakland, seattle all very pitcher favorable. But I think the NL West is even tougher.

We were talking about Headly vs Callaspo.
