Hey sorry for late reply, I was away for a couple days. Yes, I watched the movie Passchendaele for a Canadian history class in University a couple years ago. Written by Canadian Paul Gross, and I think his Grandfaher was in WWI so it gave him the motivation to write it. Yes, the movie revolves around Calgary, his hometown. I'm from Ontario, but I've been to Calgary 4 or 5 times and it definitely matches the rolling hills in the film.

While it does focus on the western front, it also tells the story from Alberta's standpoint. Our Prime Minister at the time was Borden, and he did in 1917 introduce Conscription to meet a quota, however I don't think it went into effect. Yes, you're right, all of our recruits were volunteers. There was such a love for Britain at the time that Canadians wanted to go and help. The same thing happened previously for the Boer/South African War. Canada has never forcibly conscribed anyone to my knowledge. WWII was also volunteer.

Yes when I think of WWII, I think of Juno Beach at Dieppe mostly for Canadian troops. Somewhere they were involved heavily was in supplying Britain though. Some people know I'm sure that Canada had many merchant ships going over, and they were heavily targeted by U-Boats. Probably involved in the Battle of the Atlantic. Yes, Normandy for sure. As far as I know also, Canada played a role in the Netherlands as well..apparently there are monuments there for them.
