Those are really good numbers. it was mentioned that other teams were interested in drafting him as a pitcher but the genious in the o's front office at the time decided to make him a position player because of his bat. Considering how is production has dropped off the o''s might have been better off making him a pitcher. He probably would have won more games than some of the scrubs we've seen on the mound since he was drafted. Is it to late to consider converting him back into a pitcher?

Contributing factor. Matusz isn't left in to give up all 7 runs with a normal BP that didn't pitch 20+ innings in the previous series. Neither reliever used was even on the roster a day ago, so Berken can't give up runs when he isn't in the BP and he wouldn't be if it wasn't for the previous game. If you want to deny that the worn out BP is the reason they gave up 14 runs today, GL with that, but a few guys clearly had to be sacrificed today to save everyone else.

Matusz and Berken both struggled in Espositos' first start as a catcher. He wasn't with the O's in spring training and didn't have to much time at Norfolk to learn the staff. I think that could have contributed a little bit to the blowout as well. Especially with Matusz being so fragile. He didn't have Weiters there to hold his hand and nurse him thru the outing.
