Just getting caught up and haven't read all the posts. But I have an anxiety issue, one that is getting much, much better..

Just assuming it has to do with playing baseball is wrong though. Anxiety affects everyone differently.. I don't get anxiety when I'm under the gun at work, or during a personal confrontation, even one that turns physical (I worked as a prison guard and now work in a house with people with mental issues). Weirdly I'm at my most calm at those moments..

My anxiety issues used to happen, and occasionally still do, when I'm resting. Or just sitting around doing nothing..

Maybe it's the residual effects of those moments. who knows. But it can be from anything.

That's all good and well AJ but when you see posts like "I bet it's alcohol or substance abuse issues", that's taking it way too far.

None of us know for certain, so throwing out lines like that is massively disrespectful, whether it turns out to be true or not.

Joe,

Huff has undergone plenty of criticism in this career, just like any pro athlete. The fact that 99% of pro athletes DON'T have a breakdown every year is a testament to their mental toughness.

Think about the 19 year old kids in the minors who read about how they're never going to make it to the bigs. Or the college athlete that makes one mistake that ruins a school's season. Or the 32 year old athlete whom's divorce is talked about sport radio like it's a major current event.

Whatever it is that affecting Huff, it's beyond your typical sports guy problems.

LetsGo: get caught up will ya.

"Huff’s personal life is going through upheaval as well. According to court records from Hillsborough County, Fla., his wife, Baubi, filed for divorce on Jan. 31. The couple has been married since 1997 and has two young sons. The latest case management conference between the parties was held April 11"

"You are an idiot. Money and fame do not make one immune to the human condition. Unbelievable."

Who said anyone is immune? Some people are getting close too or crossing the line a little here, but most are speculating what might be going on in his life, SINCE HE JUST DISAPPEARED.

My only point to that was if you get paid $11 million a year to play a game, you're going to be famous, and alot of baggage comes along with that, including people that worship the ground you play on speculating on your absence on a baseball forum.

But at least we didn't call him an "idiot", that's reserved for people that have an opinion on here apparently.

Go Giants.

Ok so you're not an idiot you're just ignorant. What does fan worship and the size of his paycheck have to do with family issues and anxiety?

I'm the same way. When I'm under extreme pressure or have some sort of crisis to deal with I get calm and focused. It feels like the rest of the world is going in slow motion. It's when I'm at my most comfortable. But I have a very difficult time when things are moving at a slower pace or I have free time. Sitting around watching TV or something like that gives me anxiety. I also have major issues sleeping for the same reason.

Hey kf9,

"Huff did come to camp out of shape following the World Championship season. For that there is no excuse. However, there has never been ANYONE say he has had a behavior issue in the clubhouse."

Actually, yes, I have read (and no, not here, or on any individual blogs) that Huff went negative in the clubhouse in 2011, and that it did cause problems with the rest of the team.

It was part of the get your act together talk that Bochy and Sabean had with the guy at the end of 2011. It was not just about his physical fitness.

Hey JG,

"If you want to be a celebrity or a Pro Athlete and get Rich because of millions of people watch and adore you, you better be able to handle it when you start letting them down. You can't have it both ways."

I agree. It's all well, good and appropriate to feel for a guy whose life is in disarray, BUT...when a guy is getting paid $11M a year to play a key part on a professional sports team, he has a responsibility to his employer and teammates to either play at the highest level possible, or stand down, without pay.

Let him get himself well...but let him do it on his own time, and on his own dime. This is not like a work-related injury. And yes, I felt the same way about Grienke, Votto, Ankiel, and others who've suffered from one mental problem or another.

That said, the collective bargaining agreement may guarantee Huff's contract, regardless of the cause of his inability to play.

Too bad his anxiety disorder doesn't cause him to be so anxious he can't cash his checks.

Hey Ajay31,

"That 2nd base assignment would have been tough for even the most well-adjusted player."

Oh, please. Aubrey Huff is a professional infielder. The coverage options on ground balls for a 2B are incredibly simple. I'm not saying he should be expected to turn double plays as a LH 2B, but he should have known to go to the bag on a ball hit to the SS side of 2B.

On a ball hit to the left side of 2B, with a runner at 1B, the 2B goes to take the throw at 2B, backing off if the SS takes the ball to the bag himself. On a ball hit to the right side of the bag, the 2B fields the ball and goes to either 2B, with the SS covering, or 1B.

Two options, based on where the grounder is hit. If the guy's head is in the game at all, he makes the play.

"thats why huff went AWOL,,lighten up on him,,,he's havin a nervous breakdown,,,"

I agree with that. He should be given a little slack personally. Not sure he should be given any slack for it when it comes to playing baseball for the giants though.

",,time to retire now i,m thinking,,,take your your rally thong and ws ring and be proud"

I'm not sure he has to retire. This problem is inside Huff's head. Only he can decide if he needs to retire. If he wants to take a month off and then come back to baseball I'm fine with that as long as he keeps in shape.

Isn't a no Huff in the lineup a good thing?

Let him take the rest of the year off for all I care..

This via John Shea: Statement from Aubrey Huff: #SFGiants “Thank you to the fans, media and Giants organization for the outpouring of support during this very difficult week. I’m especially grateful for the texts and calls from my teammates, who are like my brothers and have let me know they’re here for me. . . . (MORE COMING)

Rest of Aubrey Huff statement: "My goal is to get back on the field as soon as possible. To do that, I have to focus completely on getting well. I know I’m in a public job, and I’ve been one of the more open guys. But sometimes you have to pull back and work on things in private. This is one of those times. I appreciate your understanding and patience.’’
