You may not want to hear it,but Hernandez will be gone this year.Your roster isn't a major league roster. The moves have to be made, and the players the Mariners would acquire would move them light years ahead of where they are or would be standing pat.

What you are trying to convince us of is not a new idea. "the mariners will trade Felix and then they will be able to win"

If I were to guess, I would guess that if this was going to happen it would have already happened. From what I can see the M's are sticking it out with Felix and hoping that some of our young players can flourish enough to take us somewhere or show some promise before Felix's contract is up.

I mean, who are we going to get for trading away Felix that would make it worth considering? Especially considering how the fanbase would react to it.

BTW, I seriously doubt that Felix would approve a trade to Toronto.

Jaso is a hair better than Olivo - and given he is younger versus Olivo being at the end of his career, certainly has potential to give us more going forward.

And hey Butchie, it's only March, this board relies on you for unbridled optimism until at least June ...

Hey,nm, I am optimistic----just do not really think Jaso was a good acquisition. But, who knows ? Maybe Figgy will regain his form of yesteryear & Jaso will work out the problems that have kept him down. I see Olivo got a hit in the loss to the A's. 1-1. Giving up 3 HR's is not good, though. Here we go !

If Mariners' management believed the team was one bat away from making a World Series run, then management made a mistake by not getting a proven bat.

However, I truly believe that the Front Office is looking beyond 2012, especially since Texas and Anaheim appear to be juggernauts.

It's simply isn't realistic to expect us to make the jump from 95 losses to a playoff contender, especially with the teams Texas and Anaheim have. This season is about developing Montero and Ackley, as well as some of our other young prospects.

I'd really like to see the M's shoot for .500. I think that we have to be a .500 team before can start thinking about getting that "one bat" to vault us into playoff contention. Right now, one bat might make us an 89-loss team. We need to improve ourselves from within before we start seeking outside help.

I agree. I would have loved to have had him, but for three fewer years and $70 million less.

Would you agree to the statement, "Prince Fielder: Good player, bad contract."?

Oh. Thanks for that opinion. BTW, I had this funny thought when I saw your screen name. I thought: Wouldn't if be funny if "jaysforlife" meant the Toronto Blue Jays, who've been in fourth place for four years? Of course, you don't mean THOSE jays, right?

"You may not want to hear it,but Hernandez will be gone this year."

Yeah. If the Nationals offer us Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper. Otherwise, Felix will probably be a Mariner through the 2013 season.

Now, if things haven't turned around in the next two seasons, then I could envision the M's trading Felix if they feel they lack the funds to retain his services.

I HIGHLY doubt Felix Hernandez is going anywhere this season.

Thanks for the original commentary, though.

In my humble opinion, the biggest offensive mistake the Mariners have commited is the retention of figgins. I believe after today's game he's hitting somewhere in nthe neighborhood of .085. And good players sit on the bench watching him.

I agree let him go already, waste of space.

Who is he taking playing time from? Liddi isn't a major leaguer just yet, Seager doesn't hit enough for 3B. I mean I know everyone's sick and tired of Figgy but we're on the hook for paying for him, aren't really competing at all, it doesn't hurt to give him some reps and see if he can turn into a useful player again. Liddi and Seager are going to be around, their values aren't going down. Figgins has none and if he can regain some we might be able to move him and save a bit of cash. That's really the only thing I can think of. I'm sick of him too, though.
