If i remember correctly, his numbers were even better when he was brought up last season, but he did not show much in the big league level as a consistent bat, he is on a hot streak now, but that does not guaranteed him to be successful in the big league level, i hope im wrong and he goes nuts in the big leagues, but chances are slim in my honest opinion.

Let's just hope he actually gets a chance to play and get acclimated. If they do to him what they did to Van Slyke - bring him up , then sit him on the bench - I doubt he'll have much of an impact.

This would all make sense if the plan was to DFA Loney. Sands takes over first base & Rivera goes back to being a sub in the outfield. If Jerry stumbles & falls, Rivera takes his spot at first.

Anyone know if Jerry has been playing any first base in the minors?

Then there you go. The Dodgers are probably about to cut bait with Loney.

Yeah! And let's send him back down to AAA once he goes 0-4 in the big leagues!

The Dodgers are still searching for the big bat. They didn't find it in Victorino or Ramirez (whatever else they may have found), and thus Sands returns to the majors. They are still also looking for the #2 pitcher, which they have also not found. Blanton looks to be a serviceable #4 or #5. What this goes to prove is that even when you have the money to spend such talents are not readily available.

What they now have is a good team, a playoff team (given the expansion), but they are far from a WS team. So, Sands looks good in AAA, and the Dodgers have to bring him up. He has some experience at 1st base, but no one has yet commented on the quality of his performance there.

Sands replacing Gwinn, good move, Gwinn could make it as a minor league player, no shame in knowing how good or lousy u r as a player.

Really? Close to 100 home runs in three years is not performing well for that long? I'd like to not perform that well. He's here to play every day. We have little to nothing to lose by playing him at 1B every day. He will play (or better play) every day for at least the next two weeks. Let's see if he has what it takes. If he doesn't, we still have time to make a waiver deal for someone like Morneau.

I hope he tears it up but he struggles bad every time he comes up

Yeah, he really struggled last September with a .342 BA and .919 OPS. I love struggling like that.

I think that is exactly what the FO is trying to find out. Are we in desperation mode to find an answer to 1st base outside of the organization.

I think if he gets a change he'll perform. At the very least better than freeeknn Loney. He hasnt had a 'legitimate lengthy" chance since 2 years ago when he did well at the end of the season. I think he has the tools. Put him at first and see what he does. Whats the alternative? Loney!
