"You like watching a guy get by on low 80's fastballs?"

If he can be effective, yeah. You're only entertained if a guy lights up the radar gun?

I don't see him get to 300 wins.

This is a nice feel good story but it would take about 3 years for him to get to 300. We talk about pitchers falling off a Cliff in the mid-later 30's. Moyer is at an age were he could be hospitalized at any given time.

He needs to hold back on that blazing fastball then.

I really love baseball. If I am going to spend my money to go to a professional game I want to see more than a high school quality pitcher.

To address your point of being "effective", I once talked with a great hitter and he was saying that he never could understand why the top recruits and prospects were always guys who had 90mph+ stuff. Because it was harder to hit the real slow pitching.

So I am not arguing about whether it is effective or not. Because it could be at times. But, I am not spending my money to go watch a big league game with a high school quality pitcher.

"Moyer is currently older than the entire regular starting rotation of the 1993 Rockies team and the only guy from the regular lineup older than him is Andres Galarraga."

I had to read this a few times before it sunk in.

Chew on this. Gary Matthews Jr. & Sr. have come and gone during his career

Wowzers. Moyer could also experience two generations of DeShields if Jr. gets a September callup.

Some highlights:

"Tommy John was still a major league pitcher, and not just a surgical procedure, when Moyer started in the big leagues."

"The major league minimum was $60,000 when Moyer made his debut. Alex Rodriguez made more than that every time he stepped up to the plate last season ($74,000)."

"Moyer finally reached the World Series a month short of his 46th birthday in 2008 when he pitched for his boyhood team, the Phillies. He dug out the pitching rubber as a souvenir the night Philadelphia won the series. "Being in the parade was pretty cool because in 1980 I went to the parade the last time they won the World Series.''"

Jamie Moyer doesn't need to steal all the thunder.

Omar Vizquel was and still is a beast at shortstop. He may not be as good as he once was, but he defines how the position is to be played.

Publicity stunt.

Come see the old guy break age records and continue to be a little less than mediocre.

Eh, even a less than mediocre Moyer has the potential to outperform the Rockies other rotation options.

I'd take Moyer over a few SP in the bigs. I'd take him over Zito and Lackey.

I'm with Todd on this one. The Moyer acquisition is kind of a joke.

Did you see Colorado's rotation last year? Moyer can't be any worse than Aaron Cook was.

We have the honor of being the first team he faces this year on Saturday.

starting the year off vs. Guthrie and Moyer may make our offense feel good about themselves for a short time. Of course after that it is the flame thrower Nicasio and off the the arms of the Braves, Miami, Dodgers, and Brewers.
