He's actually allowed to state his opinion, that's the point of a message board

He belongs in the 5th slot.

1. Jeter
2. A Rod
3. Cano
4. Tex
5. Grandy
6. Swish
7. DH
8. Martin
9. Ichiro...

Is it just me or is the binder completely lost when it comes to the batting order?

TO me personally, the binder just proves that Girardi has no confidence in his own decision making, and if something messes up (which is often does), then he can just say....hey, Im just playing the odds. Instead of, I messed up.

So, what did brawl say this time? Is Gary a dope, or a blosux troll? Or both? :-)

So do you think you would do better with an open book test or leave the book in the hall and answer the questions by memory?
What is wrong with making sure you have the correct answer?
I would rather have a manager that checks his thoughts before making a decision than one that just pulls them out of his keester.

I agree somewhat with the desire to see Girardi relax his adherence to the statistics. I'd like to see him take an occasional chance on his instincts and make a decision based on feeling rather than numbers. I'd like to see him live in the moment, go with the momentum, and challenge some guys to rise to the occasion.

For example, rather than continuing to protect Granderson (because of his ridiculously high likelihood to strike out) by hitting him in front of the big hitters (in a slot where he really does not fit properly), I'd like to see Jeter-Ichiro (in whatever order) at the top of the lineup, Cano-Rodriguez-Teixeira (in whatever order) in the middle, and then Granderson-Swisher-Ibanez (in whatever order) at the back followed by Martin. Then try it for two-three weeks and see what happens. Instead, Girardi becomes too locked in to one lineup arrangement and the lineup goes stale. With Alex Rodriguez out until September (and thus, so little time before the post season), you can be sure that the lineup will remain the same as it was before he went on the DL.

Maybe in 2013 Cashman will challenge Girardi to re-establish his baseball instincts by taking away his binder for a month.

Are you advocating getting rid of Girardi, or just having him manage without referring to his binder for every move?

There are plenty of managers in the league that never check a book and make great decisions. Knowing what you have on your team and when to trust them or not is key. The binder puts too much emphasis on expected outcomes. Ive seen Girardi pull a pitcher when he was doing great because a hitter is coming up that is like 2-4 against him. Thats too small of a sample size. And of course, more times than not, the next pitcher gives up a hit to the same guy anyways.

Yes, I see the point of the binder, I just think its a cop out.

So you have been in every dugout through every game in baseball. That is quite the feat. Sure wish I knew how to be in 20 places at the same time and knew exactly what every manager does at every second of every game. Good for you.

No player should think they own a place in the lineup.

The binder lets Girardi say, "It's not me, it's the binder."

I realize you are the smartest poster on this board. I have not had enough time to visit every dugout to see what the managers are doing, but you seem to know exactly what they are doing yourself. So you, I guess, Have had plenty of time to visit every dugout to make sure they ARE all checking a binder. I also realize you are one of the 50 posters on this board where, if you aren't agreed with, everyone else is wrong.

"d like to see Jeter-Ichiro (in whatever order) at the top of the lineup, "

can people just stop already with this ichiro at the top of the lineup nonsense already he has almost no business being in the major leagues at this point and would have none at all if it wasnt for his defense
