....Wade's cleats starting to wear dangerously thin?

yes, I know how well he did last year -- and how he performed earlier this year

but I think that last night was the fourth straight sub-par outing he's had

in a what-have-you-done-for-me-LATELY world (especially where middle relievers tend to be considered kind of Jeckyll/Hyde by definition), is his shelf-life in pinstripes beginning to be at risk?

for the KNEEJERKS out there (emphasis on the second syllable), I'm posing a question, not casting a judgement, got it?

sorry, was on the road during last night's FAIL by Wade (barely picking up the 880 and ESPN AM signals on Mass Pike)

otherwise I would've asked during that game whether his roster spot is becoming at risk

Wade has been shaky but he is a middle reliever so that is bound to happen, as long as he recovers soon it will be fine. Boone looked like he was pitching himself off the team a couple of times last year and where would we be without him so far this year?? Relievers require patience....

betcha you only noticed the Cano HR last night, and somehow missed that it was HIS error that made that comeback necessary? 'coz Cano can NEVER be at fault in your eyes, right?

oh, and after all your whining about how Cano MUST be moves up in the lineup, 'coz he SURELY would come through with so many RBIs, how's that 160 BA with men on base looking NOW?

oh, and when I talked about kneeJERKS, it's no surprise that YOU showed up, right on cue

Has it EVER occured to you that MAYBE Cano's POOR statistics with RUNNERS in SCORING position MIGHT just be a FLUKE? After all, he HIT .318 with RUNNERS in SCORING position LAST SEASON and .322 WITH RUNNERS in SCORING position the YEAR BEFORE. So, what has CHANGED this season, is CANO not TAKING his RISP PILLS or SOMETHING?

Kind of sad that you had to add the last sentence just to pose a simple question.

Lately I get nervous when Wade comes into game. I don't think he is pitching as consistently as last year. I hope he turns it around, but I don't think the Yankee Empire will crumble because a few fans, myself included, worry about his next appearance. Time to lighten up.

As to Cano, the analytical tools now available to study nearly every fart in the game are still just tools. Past performance is not a guarantee of current results. Do I expect Robbie's numbers to improve? Yes, he is a great hitter. But I also think that he was overswinging badly w/risp earlier this year.

yes, Wade WAS betrayed somewhat -- Granderson looks like he coulda gotten that bloop if he broke in immediately (looked like he took a step back first) and Stewart coulda held onto that foul tip and yet....

....that's now FIVE pretty MEH appearances in a row for him

you kneeJERKS STILL think that the ice beneath him isn't getting a bit thin? ESPECIALLY when there was a backhanded admission that middle relievers are kind of fungible

Yes, he's not doing well and likely something will done soon. Not much else to it.

he's playing himself out of "meaningful appearances" -- I'm pretty sure this appearance was supposed to be an ego-boost for him (no pressure, feel good about himself by having a "clean" mopup inning), and instead, it worked out exactly the opposite

Yep, fortunately we have others to fill the role.

"Yep, fortunately we have others to fill the role."

Exactly, Logan and Robertson make a very nice set-up tandem. And. Eppley and Rapada have been great in middle relief.

Aardsma might not be a near-term solution (sometime in July?), since it's possible that he could have a setback in his timetable -- it's also possible that he won't be effective immediately (despite the myth about players coming back "stronger" from TJ)

despite maybe wanting to "stretch out" Phelps as a starter, they could still decide that the immediate needs of the Yanks for another dependable middle reliever outweighs future needs for a possible starter

Neither of them are solutions right now. The other guys in the pen will step in while the team analyzes whether Wade is simply in a slump and can be fixed or not.

but, you don't want TWO Freddie Garcias taking up slots on the roster (tho' admittedly Freddie hasn't been so heinous lately, tho' he still hasn't earned important innings)
