The old-style World Series Trophy?

In 2000, the MLB started issuing this half-assed excuse for a trophy with no team names on the flags, and no indications on the trophy of the two teams involved in the World Series.

Do I agree that maybe it could have used some sort of re-making? Yes. But by the same token, why literally deface this trophy and make it a generic trophy, at best?

never really took the time to see the difference but yeah I like to old style better - thanks for showing the difference.

yeh i didnt know there were different trophies til i went to the new museum in the new ballpark. I looked at the 2000 trophy and almost choked. I was rather surprised that MLB would commission this trophy to Tiffany to be made.

Never noticed it either but totally agree with you. No matter what, it is still better than Super Bowl trophy.

the super bowl trophy is horrible....it's why im disappointed the MLB asked Tiffany--the same people who make the Lombardi Trophy--to make the WS trophy....sad

Yes, the older trophy is much better...

I hate to be the voice of dissent, but actually I like the new trophy better. To my eyes it looks more elegant, and better proportioned height to circumference. It has a more art deco look to it.

like i said, they could do the new trophy without removing what made the old trophy so classic.

The flags having every team name on them was a nice touch, as was a team logo of both teams involved in the world series. I think a compromise couldve been made...and if you look at the older trophies from 2000, you'll see how incredibly tarnished theyve become. The pre-2000 trophies, not so much.

It's a good thing the trophy is only good for what it represents: victory. As long as they won, they could hoist a pancake for all I care LOL

But I definitely see your point. The design isn't as elaborate - I guess they went with simplicity.

Yeah, when I went to the Yankees museum, they had all 4 trophies from the dynasty on the shelf, and the first 3 (96, 98 and 99) were much better looking than the 2000 trophy. There was a little plaque that had an explanation as to why they made the change, but I forgot what it said...

probably something to do with Tiffany bidding some exorbitant amount of cash for the rights to make the trophy...

Wait so Tiffany does the new trophy but not the old one? Who did that one then?
