Even though he stunk on ice and got hurt this year, I still like him. He deserved to be at the parade today and seemed cute with his Baby. AWESOME PARADE! If he gets better and gets to work early, he could be great next year even if it's in the bullpen.

contract time could be very messy with him -- we "beat" him in last year's contract, and I'm sure his agent felt that we disrespected him previous years' contributions -- now, on the flip side, it becomes "you did NOTHING for us in 2009; our offer should reflect that, since we don't know when/if/how well you might return"

It is not a given they would even get that far....the Yankees may non-tender him to avoid going to arbitration all together....I think that would be a mistake, I would try and work out a 2 year deal (second year a club option) loaded with incentives....

Think about it if Wang can rebound and Andy is back that is over 370+ innings that we can have. I still say the Yankees rotation next season should be

Sabathia
Burnett
Pettitte
Wang
Hughes

with the bullpen of

Aceves

Coke
Marte

Robertson
Joba

Rivera

This is why I'm confident in this team's ability to repeat. It starts with pitchers and giving you innings during the season.

I hope he can return to form, because he would give us so much added depth in the 2 or 3 spot in the rotation, alongside CC and AJ, and hopefully Andy.

Exactly shovel, if he can even regain some of what he was before, if he can return and give this team 170 innings that would be awesome.

To me this teams rotation if Andy is back, which I see no reason why he won't will lead this team to another title.

Sabathia - 200+ innings
Burnett - 200+ innings
Pettitte - 185+ innings
Wang - 170+ innings, if he can bounce back
Hughes - as a #5 starter

This team will be even better next season. Woohoo. Love it.

Sabathia- Halladay- Burnett- Pettite- Wang (with a new contract with incentives)
Bullpen: Aceves- Bruney- Marte- Robertson- Coke- Joba- Hughes- Mo

Is Halladay avaible ? We are the Yankees, we are the Chapions and nothing can stop us !

the cautionary tale in that is how "brilliant" Theo lost the Bosox season by counting on Penny and Smoltz "coming back" -- counting on Wang "coming back" could be a disaster for us -- then we might end up having to try a mid-course correction (like "brilliant" Theo bringing in over-the-hill Byrd and beer league Tazawa) -- I don't want Cashman to be in the position to be looking at the Ponsons of the world if Wang DOESN'T come back

Ed. addn: now there is a difference -- while Penny and Smoltz were "hired guns", with no "attachment" to the Bosox, Wang is "one of our own", so we might be seen to owe him a chance -- but not to the extent where we risk the entire season on his ability to return (remember, part of the reason we stumbled out of the gate THIS year was 'coz we COUNTED on Wang coming back well from that Lisfranc ankle injury -- and then we were scrambling to fill the gap)

Wang deserves a chance. He will bounce back and become one the great home grown pitchers. Yankees did well taking him to the world series. I am sure he likes to rebound as a Yankee. Yankees may consider another ace in the market for insurance and to keep off the three man rotation, and the possibility of injury along the line.

a CHANCE, yes -- ANY guarantee? NO!!!

a chance = invitation to come to ST (if he's physically able at that point) or (if he's not yet healed enough for ST) a chance to come to the minors -- he has to PROVE he's ready and able to contribute

we CANNOT assume again -- we ASSUMED that Hughes and Kennedy would be major contributors in 2008 and their 0-fer results were the single, biggest reasons for no post-season in 2008 (and why we ended up having to count on the likes of Ponson instead) -- we ASSUMED that Wang would have healed totally from the Lisfranc injury and would be a major part of our 2009 rotation -- when that proved not to be the case, that messed up a lot of things -- we ASSUMED that we could keep Chamberlain's inning count down by skipping him and pushing him back in the rotation -- so, when we FINALLY saw that Wang wasn't able to contribute, then we were forced to bring in (UGH!!) Mitre and drop the plans to "push back" Chamberlain

so, the bottom line is that you cannot take those risks with the teams' results like that -- we should only offer Wang an incentive-laden contract with NO promises of even being on the team, let alone in the starting rotation -- if he can find some other team that will offer him those dangerous promises (and a contract based upon that), so be it

how I see if, we also cannot ASSUME (or make promises to that extent, or salary to that extent) that both Hughes and Chamberlain will be part of the starting rotation (2008 should prove the risk in doing that) -- I don't think that Mitre (no matter WHAT Girardi thinks about "my BULLDOG") or Gaudin can be counted on, either (if they both aren't even in the organization next year, I wouldn't shed a single tear) -- we need to (as quickly as possible) nail down Pettitte on what he wants to do; if he wants to come back, then it's CC, AJ, and Andy -- and then, maybe, *EITHER* Hughes *OR* Chamberlain (and they have to EARN the slot -- no 2008 guarantees this time) -- and then ??

No Andy? then we need to find a #3 type pitcher on the open market

IMO, Wang should just go LA for his own good. Yankees will do no-tender anyway.
Bowa is the only coach in the world who knows how to develop and protect Wang. Since he left Yankees, Wang's good day was over, officially. The only thing left in NY for Wang just disaster.
Besides, NY just too cold for a kid born in Taiwan. In Tainan (where Wang war born and still lives there), even in winter, the average temperature still above 20C (about 90F). Not to mention AL EAST is the toughest division.

I agree with you on Wang. We, more than any other team, know his condition. He would be a big loss if he comes back healthy and strong and goes back to his first two years performances.
