Anybody have to do it? I have to go tomorrow and, believe it or not, I'd rather go to
work. Inevitable pass through the metal detectors on the way in (but remember
we are a much more civilized society)? I hope they want me to be a juror on a case
involving a gun. As someone who thinks nobody should own one, I'm sure I'll be
instantly dismissed.

Yeah I have gone 2 - 3 times (in Cook and Will). The last time for a week . Was in a few jury pools but was not picked .
On the Friday just before being dismissed with maybe 2 hours to go they come in and tell us they are going to take another jury (you just sit in a large room if not on a jury). I was bummed because I'm looking at another week there . They came in and said it went to a bench trial (the judge decides) and dismissed us .
But I think some countys are different in procedure (amount of time) . And might be different in another state .

Jury duty is no big deal unless you are an owner of something.
I just turned in my measly check to my company and got paid my X #'s of hours.
Bring a book, newspaper, etc. as this can be a looooong day.

The forms are the biggest pain in the @$$ as they want to know when you took your last dump.

Good luck ! and think of it this way.... you'll be in an A/C building.

I got called for jury twice within a two week period earlier this year. One for County and one for US District Court.

Luckily didn't get picked to be on the jury either time but got to go into the courtroom where they ask all the question to determine if they want you on the jury or not. That's really interesting if you've never gotten that far before.

The US District Court paid well, I got $50 for about 3 hours of my time.

"Inevitable pass through the metal detectors on the way in "

not always..i was in the courthouse in addison last summer...there are no metal detectors , gaurds at the door or anything...you just walk right in , go to the board and find you courtroom..rather refreshing
