I think Harper has been fantastic on the Nationals, given the team a spark and drawing out crowds everywhere the team goes, but I don't think he deserves an All Star berth yet because he has only played 2 months and his numbers aren't quite there yet. Harper did something way more important than earn an All Star spot, he earned an everyday spot on a major league baseball team that has every chance to be a contender.

I am glad Harper is a National and hope he stays one throughout his career. I happen to also agree with him about Chipper Jones, and voted accordingly. There is little doubt in my mind that Bryce Harper will be a perennial all star, and I will be glad to vote for him year after year when he truly earns it.

Congratulations to Strasburg, Gio and Desmond(who imo is way underrated by the fans.)

I'd love to see Bryce in KC, just so the rest of the world can see him play.

That said, it would be a nice break for him to go see his family and play with his puppy. And get ready for the rest of the season.

I'm thrilled for Ian, Stras and Gio. They all deserve their spots!

Go Nats!

I had no idea there were so many "Nat fans" who adore Chipper Jones. You would honestly rather see Chipper jones make the team than Harper? You truly think Chipper deserves to be an all star in 2012? Unbelievable

La Russa should have named Chipper to the team the same way C Ripken and Gwynnwere named

derby: I don't think that most fans actively want Jones more than Harper. It would have been great if he made it. However, I think, at least in my case, that I'm not sure he's deserving. He's tailed off a bit and his numbers are really not superior to Jones or Freese.

Perhaps, but as a NATS fan I don't see how you could vote for a rival player in the same division rather than one of your own.. Also, Harper's #'s are better than chippers. chipper has a few more rbi (hits in the mioddle of the lineup) and a slightly higher OBP, but Harper has a lot more runs, SBs, XBHs and more HRs. Everyone talks about Harper being a punk but people talk about jones like he can do no wrong. He cheated on his wife and knocked up a Hooters waitress, and his team mates have talked about his poor work ethic and milking injuries like he's some sort of European soccer player. There's way too much love for chipper on this board.

Understood. Just to be clear I did not vote for Jones.

They are not Nats fans just like those who try to discourage voting for Harper by saying he really doesn't want to be an all star.

I don't think there are nats fans who would rather see jones than harper. I think there are Nats fans that feel that dirtbag la Russa should have picked Jones as a future Hall of Famer the way Gwynn and Ripkin were picked

That of cours would have left harper against the "field'

i read one columnist who listed Jones as a shoo in with competition from 3 others and Harper as a longshot

I wish I could rememeber the name of that idiot writer, probably doesn't even know the nats are in 1st place

The Nats are my team, and I root for them no matter what. But I also love the game of baseball, there are some terrific players who are good for the sport and deserve a nod from baseball fans on their way out. I have no problem with someone having a different opinion than my own, but I don't see why you question my loyalty...I'm a Nats fan through and through.

Does Chipper Jones deserve to be an All Star for his numbers this year? Nah. He deserves to be an All Star because he is a fantastic player, a team guy and a pleasure to root against(but not dislike) for many, many years. No pinstripes for Chipper=D

Bryce Harper will have his day, and on that day I will be as excited and proud as any Nats fan that he is one of ours.

I vote for who I think should be an all star and said why, that is not in any way discouraging anyone else. The All Star game is our direct way as fans to have a say in anything, and each of us should enjoy it and make the most of it. If you vote Nats down the line, awesome, loyal to the finish...if you vote more as an overall fan, awesome, loyal to the game(doesn't mean you don't love your team though.) What I want is every single Nat to deserve to be on the All Star team=D

Well, now that my power is back on, I'll be settling in to an evening of voting for Bryce while watching the Nats take on the Giants.

Until I heard he was in third place in the voting, I was pretty much ambivalent about his going. Now, I take it as a personal challenge to get him there.

Go Nats!
Go Bam Bam!

I still have no power.

But I will never vote for Chipper Jones even to be the trash collector

Any "Nats fan" who says they will are the Sunshine Nats fans. The Summer Patriots ---the band wagoners---who are just now showing up

I was the same. Now I've been spending the afternoon at the office voting for him; get tired of typing all of those numbers for every vote, though.

I love my Nats, but I must agree with you 100%.

Sorry, but Harper has not earned a spot on the All Star team after only 2 months of play. And, lately, he's been slumping a bit anyway.

I do think the 3 Nats that got on very much deserved the nods.

But, frankly, I am stumped at those who insist Harper belongs on the team too.

Davey seems particularly perturbed, based on some comments he's recently made.

Harper will hopefully have a more legitimate shot to become an All Star in the years to come, but this year should not be one of them.

I don't know Lady.

It's all in good fun.

Baseball is a game. It's supposed to be fun.

No worries. As the July 4th holiday reminds us, we all are free to express our opinions. We all love our Nats.

:-)

"I still have no power."

Ack. I'm so sorry. Sending cooling thoughts of ice cream, penguins and cool breezes.

To say somebody isnt a true Nats fan or that they are a "sunshine" fan because they dont vote Harper in the all star game is laughable and utter nonsense. Been an Expo/Nats for 30 years but I just dont think the Kid has earned it this year, simple as that. It should be Bourn over Harper and Jones in my opinion. Go Nats!
