because I'm young enough that I will still be alive in the ten to twenty years it takes the Nats to get to the WS

...because as horrific as the last couple seasons have been, I love baseball, and I love that finally after decades of following teams I have no real local connection to, the Nationals are a ballclub I can call my "hometown team".

...because I have been able to introduce my young daughters to the greatest game in the world in two ML ballparks over the last 5 years and have established one connection/bond between us that I hope will last into my decrepitude.

...because I, too, am still young enough (in me late 40's) to still be here when the Nationals make a real run of it. Good lord willing.

...because when we really stink, and I'm broke, I have the P-Nats a half hour south of me to fall back to.

...because my life in general would be less colorful and interesting and fulfilling without the Nats to put my psychic baseball energy into. (Would that they'd win more though....please).

Because the Nats finally are getting things together like a professional organization with a real GM, manager and prospects like Stras, Storen, Wilkie, Mandel, Marrero and Norris who look like the real deal and will either crack the lineup or be used to get talent in here now.

Believe it or not, the Curly-W logo (usually known as the Pretzel-W in the '60s, before MLB tightened up the W in '05)... It has an undeniably timeless quality that doesn't scream "D.C. = expansion team" to the nation. Unlike the blocky Fuddruckers font, our Curly-W is a look that's here to stay, for which I am THANKFUL.

Hey, small things mean a lot...just ask Chris Cooley...click. ;)

I also love the "Fuddruckers" font because IT'S NOT CURSIVE. To me, even the Frank Howard Senators uniforms---which also said "Senators" on the road jerseys (sound familiar?)---to me seem to be saying, "Hey! We're almost like the Orioles! Please like us!"

To me, the block letters tell fans, "F the Orioles, WE'RE THE NATIONALS!"

Keep the curly W, but have the Nationals font for everything else.

Eddie, I love ya man, but never the twain shall meet on the topic of our Nats' font's curliness/blockiness. :)

I know you are very passionate about the blocky Nationals font (and probably it's top defender here). And I'll defend your right to voice your opinion to keep it, as-is, because it's all in the eye of the beholder, anyway.

BUT IT'S NEVER HAD A THING IN THE WORLD to do with --or say "f" to-- the Baltimore Orioles! Never heard that theory before...it's a new one...what the h ell?!

Anyway, the wife & I are headed out on the town...have a good weekend.

The Orioles' script on their uniforms only predated the Senators by five years, and at that point, the Orioles weren't worth copying anyways...

It probably didn't, but to me, IT LOOKS LIKE an imitation of the Orioles. I like the block font PRECISELY BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT from the Orioles' cursive script. The Detroit Tigers are proof that the script on your jersey does NOT have to match the same font as the cap. I love the "curly W" but hate the cursive "Washington". As long as they have that, I'm not buying a road jersey or jacket, and am thankful that I have bought the old versions before they made the switch.

Of course, the '24 Nats had the most boring and plain uniform in the history of major league baseball (the equivalent of Penn State's Nittany Lions) yet they won the Series, so go figure...

Why is script like the Orioles but not like the Athletics,Dodgers, Cardinals or Braves. Virtually every team has had or does have a cursive script uniform part including the Yankees (jacket tha has a script Yankees" across it.

If I grew up in San Diego and the Padres switched to cursive script, I'd probably be making the same complaints I am now except I'd be saying the Pads were trying to copy the Dodgers. We've been in the shadow of the Orioles for too long, and I think it's better we have a distinctive block font. In the Mid-Atlantic region cursive=Orioles.

Besides, although I don't associate the Nats font with a certain hamburger chain, that chain DOES serve great hamburgers!

Is that one of their burgers in your picture?

I wish the Nats copied the Senator 1 Block letters I think the big W block jersey is one of the classiest shirts around Not quite up their with the NY of the Yankees or the Old English D of the tigers but a claasy jersey

The Padres use script on their home jerseys and block letters on their road ones.

Now I have two teams (Red Sox and Nats) to root for to beat the MLB teams from NYC (Yankees and Mets).

I am thankful to be a Nats fan because it is only since the Nats have returned to DC that I realize what I have been missing for the past 30 years or so. The world's greatest game. Every time I think I have seen all there is to see in baseball the Nats pull off something new never seen before and likely never to be seen again. I actually saw the Nats turn a sacrifice bunt into an inside the park home run (for the othere team of course). That's pretty hard to do at the major league level. Wonders will never cease for this club.

I am thankful to be a Nats fan now, in the darkest of dark days, the worst-team-in-baseball dark days, so that when the sun rises on this club and we make it to the promised land and Ted Lerner IV hoists the World Series trophy on the flat bed truck making its way down Constitution Ave I can say that I was a fan from the beginning.

I am thankful that my dear wife who was never a baseball fan has taken up the game and enjoys watching it just as much as I do and is the one who nags me to get us down to the stadium. It makes life a whole lot more enjoyable.

I am thankful that no matter how bad things seem to be hope always springs eternal in this game. Even in a 59-103 season there are 59 WINS. And we enjoyed every one of them!

I am thankful that the Nats players and coaches keep their heads up, play hard, play to the last out, and stick together as a team. Anybody who can't get behind and root for a team like that ought to find something else to occupy his time. I am thankful Manny Acta, Randy St Clair and fellow coaches gave this team their best and departed with their heads held high. I am thankful for Jim Riggleman's steady composure and professionalism.

I am thankful that I am healthy enough to be around for another good year in 2010.

Go Nats!
