I am thankful to be a Nats fan because it is only since the Nats have returned to DC that I realize what I have been missing for the past 30 years or so. The world's greatest game. Every time I think I have seen all there is to see in baseball the Nats pull off something new never seen before and likely never to be seen again. I actually saw the Nats turn a sacrifice bunt into an inside the park home run (for the othere team of course). That's pretty hard to do at the major league level. Wonders will never cease for this club.
I am thankful to be a Nats fan now, in the darkest of dark days, the worst-team-in-baseball dark days, so that when the sun rises on this club and we make it to the promised land and Ted Lerner IV hoists the World Series trophy on the flat bed truck making its way down Constitution Ave I can say that I was a fan from the beginning.
I am thankful that my dear wife who was never a baseball fan has taken up the game and enjoys watching it just as much as I do and is the one who nags me to get us down to the stadium. It makes life a whole lot more enjoyable.
I am thankful that no matter how bad things seem to be hope always springs eternal in this game. Even in a 59-103 season there are 59 WINS. And we enjoyed every one of them!
I am thankful that the Nats players and coaches keep their heads up, play hard, play to the last out, and stick together as a team. Anybody who can't get behind and root for a team like that ought to find something else to occupy his time. I am thankful Manny Acta, Randy St Clair and fellow coaches gave this team their best and departed with their heads held high. I am thankful for Jim Riggleman's steady composure and professionalism.
I am thankful that I am healthy enough to be around for another good year in 2010.
Go Nats!
