There were SEVERAL HUNDRED of us, riding the 3:00 AM train back to DC after attending the 27th CLINCHER. It is what it is. Get over it. YANKEE UNIVERSE.

I feel sorry for Yankee fans. Sure, they won, but can there really be any meaningful pleasure in buying a championship? I understand there is much frenzy over this victory, but it's a hollow pleasure. Yankee fans seem very shallow.

and if the Lerners went out and spent $200M on ateam and it one, you would give the champuionship back. That is why we need salary caps

I'm sorry, do you want us to get over it, or get used to it?

Thanks

NSFW, but yet, a funny retort to the post.

Not to mention - the Nats were one of two teams with winning records vs. the Yankees in 2009.

Why didn't you do us a favor and just stay up there?

I am proud to be a life long Phillies fan--when we won last year, for some reason the first thing I thought about was not posting on the Nats message board to upset people in DC.

Really, just what is your problem. Yankees have agreat team and some class players but some of you fans....can't you just enjoy without trying to make others mad? There is really nothing for most people to get over here--most Nats fans don't care either way.

GO Phillies
Go Nats

Congratulations on winning the World Series. I look forward to one day seeing my team defeat yours (or even better---the Red Sox or Orioles) in a future Fall Classic. I hope you take one word of advice from this fan of a second-division team.

Savor this victory. It's very difficult---even for a team with a $200 million payroll---to repeat nowadays. The best you can hope for is a stretch like the one the Yanks had between '96 and 2000, but these Yanks aren't quite as good as the 90's Yanks with Joe Girardi the player rather than manager.

This doesn't mean the Yanks can't or won't repeat---just that it won't be easy. So drink your champagne, scream yourself hoarse at the parade, and wait at least three weeks before you start begging Brian Cashman to pick up so-and-so.

Best wishes,

"if the Lerners went out and spent $200M on ateam and it one, you would give the champuionship back."

If the Lerners spend a huge sum on free agents for 2010, I'm fine with that, because what that would do is make us competitive. It would not automatically put us in the playoffs, much less guarantee a World Series victory. If and when we become a serious contender, then no I do not want the Lerners to go out and seal the deal by buying a World Series.

For me, it's not all about winning, it's about the entertainment value of baseball. And to me the entertainment/drama value of baseball is one of the more profound influences in my life. If my team were to bypass that drama by buying a championship, the thrill of victory would be hollow. To me anyway.

Ah! Now, look at all this bitterness! Now, we're getting a real fan base in DC!

If it is any comfort: i noted to quite a few people that in 3-5 years, I will not need to catch the train, the Yankees will be coming to me in DC and - except for the Very High profile lawyer I rode up with (Former part owner?), everyone was in full agreement!

I'd suggest that getting YES is a better option than simply waiting three years before the Yankees make a road trip to Nationals Park.

One last thing---bad as the Nats were this season, we DID have a .667 winning percentage against the 2009 world champions! :-)

Ya know (I have my DirecTV set to a NJ zip code, YES is a local channel for me) when Zimm hit THE Home Run, I told my ol lady that it means A LOT more to the NATS than it ever will to the YANKEES. In FACT, every year the Nats win the Season Series against the Yankees, the Yankees win the AL East!
