As all you aficionados of BA know every year they do a draft report card for that draft. Jim Callis did a composite of all drafts in toe decade. There are 12 categories (just like the regular report card) The Nats have two players that took 4 categories among them as the best of the 2000’s (no surprise who they are)

Best defensive player -2005 Zimmerman as a personal observation NO ONE responded to the change from Mannequin to Riggleman better than Zimmerman. He got the bad throws under control and became more clutch. (Might have also coincide with the contract)
Bets Fastball- 2009 Steven Strasburg –from Callis “He topped out above Colt Griffin the Royals 2001 pick, hopefully he will have a happier ending “Griffin topped out at AA

Best pro debut- Zimmerman 2005
Closest to the majors – Strasburg 2009

Hard to blame Acta for Zimmm's throwing issues.

Totally disagree........lack of fundamentals and lack of IF practice

I'll agree that leading the league in errors as a team is a reflection of poor management by Acta. But we'll have to disagree about Zimmerman, his particular problem requires a shrink not a coach.

Disagree all you want. Teams do not routinely take infield practice anymore. Zimmerman's throws were fine until this season. What manager can you name that routinely calls out an all-star caliber veteran for extra infield practice?

Don't confuse them with facts. Zim was an error machine on his throws under Acta. Once Acta was gone so were the throwing errors.

they must have watched a differnt guy than I did . Nobody reacte dto the managerial change with a smuch positive chnage as Zimmerman. Part of that was his natural maturation but he came into his own after Acta left. Co-incidence---maybe, but I don't think so. Riggleman brought tougher accountability

Do I remember right that, in addition to more infield practice, he made a technique change in how Zimmerman made his throws to first? Something with how he planted his feet or his arm angle when throwing?

He wouldn't do that to an All Star would he?

Of all the affrontery!

I believe that they made him throw more over the top instead of slinging the ball, like Cal did.
