Fan Graphs gives very succinct anecdotal information as to where players are hitting the ball. It is in the player page under the category "Play Log":
http://www.fangraphs.com/statsp.aspx?playerid=1857&position=C&season=2012
Statistics do not constitute an opinion. However, MY opinion of how he is hitting the baseball is rooted in what I see and I've watched, followed or listened to almost all of his at bats. I have arranged his at bats into categories for ease of viewing. Check for mistakes by all means. As always, draw your own conclusions. I'm my next post I will compute and compartmentalize where he is hitting the ball.

the homer was to right.

It was driven quite well and supports my, and others here's belief that he CAN do this when needed. we just want to see more of it.

My count says 30 ground balls. Just 7 of those were hits. Only 5 of those made it though the infield.

Of his 10 fly ball outs 8 were hit to LF and just 2 were hit to CF. He has yet to fly out to RF.

when someone replies to your post, you cannot edit it anymore (which is weird because most forums allow you to)

Fangraphs has Joe's GB% as just under 53%. That is exhorbitantly high for a player of his calibre. He needs to yield different results right now because hitting that many ground balls won't get the job done.

Funny thing also is the fact that every single fly out has been hit to the left side. He has not yet flied out to right field. That is straight up bizzare for a 3rd place hitter to have just one pulled ball hit in play that made that reached the outfielder. Besides that HR against the Angels to RF he did golf a double into the corner at Yankee Stadium last week. He hit that ball about 30 feet in front of Swisher, though.

AM I missing anything??

The one he hit to right field went over the fence.

I saw said HR and I just mis-typed in my first post. I've since corrected that.

You can go through it and check for mistakes. I want it to be as accurate as it can possibly be.

Can you find where his GB rate is compared to other all-star players and the rest of the league? That would be very interesting I think...

That could be your job, because frankly I don't see where that is relevant.

No, you were saying Mauer didn't hit any flyballs to right...

If you look up the stats on each team web site you'll find GO/AO ratio...ground ball to flyouts...Mauer's current GO/AO is 1.93 or almost two ground balls to every flyball.

The number of fly balls and line drives put in play by a 3 hole hitter needs to be greater than the number of ground balls he hits. Can we agree on this?
