OK last season is over, the new season begins. What moves will the Tigers make with their bloated payroll... I see a youth movement coming, hopefully one more season of Maggs and Guillen then we free up some money for some free agents next season when the younger players get some more seasoning under their belts.

Well I know what two changes need to be made but aren't...

Yeah, that is for sure. Man I haven't been here because I am still in disbelief over the way our season ended.

Oh, good. Another 2003 debacle. I can't wait for 2011.

I'd say we need a little patchwork next year. As I looked at the Phillies and Yankees it struck me strongly that the Tigs aren't set up to compete next year....Unless, minimally...

1. Wilken Ramirez is handed right field and performs as we would hope.
2. Magglio spends most of the year as the designated hitter
3. Carlos Guillen accepts his role as a situational player.
4. Bonderman completes a comeback
5. Gallaraga's problems were just a sophomore jinx
6. We get a competent lefthander in the rotation
7. Inge recovers from knee surgery..hits .250 25 85
8. Avila is at least ready to catch 80 games.

If Cabrerra/Jackson/Verlander get hurt, throw it all out the window. And...my scenario does not consider second base, shortstop and closer issues. We may not need everything to click, but there are just too many ifs that must be taken care of to have alot of confidence.

The thing is man...

...whether anybody sees it or not, just about EVERYTHING clicked for us this year...

The right people spent the majority of the season on the DL...

Bonderman, Willis, Nate, Guillen...through the middle to mid-late season.

Coincidentally, while we were forced to play our younger guys in their "absence" those were the days we were in first place and building a lead.

What happened when all of our "equivalent to a deadline trade" people came back....we all know

Additionally...EJ took a step forward for most of the season

Porcello became a MLB pitcher this year.

Brandon hit when healthy....

Look at what kind of year Rodney and Lyon had despite preseason expectations...actually, comparatively speaking, we had a very good bullpen this year overall.

Raburn...

All of these things clicked for us THIS YEAR which is why we went from last place to almost winning the division.

I contend that if we stuck with what was working, instead of placating the egos of overpaid has beens that hit .220-something in August and September for instance...I think we win the division and get an extra 3-4 games before getting bounced by the Yanks.

Panicking and making those "veteran trades" didn't help matters either.

I don't expect things to click for us so much next year given our current roster construct and corresponding talent level as related to projected positional depth, quite frankly we need more for us to click in 2010 than we did in 2009.

My hope is we don't waste the playing time on those that aren't in the long term plans next year as it ins't likely we will be as fortunate next year as we were this year.

If your 4,5,6 happen, doesn't that give us a 6 man rotation?

Not sure I want a rook at 2B and LF, and Inge is a .236 lifer so I wouldn't count on .250 from him. But yes, I know we need some good moves on the off season and a few breaks in 2010.

Worry not my friend. Our 18 mil 50 rbi former almost MVP and one time all star .242 Carlos the LF of the future Guillen will ensure victory.

I just want to see Carlos play unhurt. Then afterwards lets decide if he's washed-up or not. In the meantime, he's penciled-in as a primary player for the Tigers next season.

Posters like dtownie can bark, bite and growl all they want this winter and Guillen's status isn't going to change. Sometimes just buying looser underwear does wonders for the Guillen moaners and groaners. Other times after fighting the Tigers brass City Hall for months-on-end, just a plain, simple mental readjustment works wonders too.

Get over it already!! Nuthin's going to change this winter regarding Carlos. He will be in the lineup most games next season. Lets hope he regains 100% of his health this winter and regains his old form for 2010.

Guillen's ridiculous contract runs through 2011, and Magglio has a $15 million option for 2011 that vests if he starts 135 games or has 540 plate appearances next year. So unless Ilitch is willing to eat yet another ton of money as he did with Sheffield, we may have two more years of one or both of those studs.

hey dipsh*t, can you please quit attacking other posters for their views.

Please, go away. You and your brother have made this board become a cesspool of contamination and no one wants to even post anymore. Yes, because of you and Drablemeat

I do not think Maggs contract vests next season unless he hits well from game 1.

According to positive membership emails I receive Mr. Jones, your assumption is incorrect. I'm not going away anyways you-numbskull!! Want some Kleenex to wipe your tears Mr. Crybaby?

Farewell to Marcus! Here's hoping a ballclub with a nice, friendly hitters atmosphere picks up his services.

You are the "cesspool of contamination" my negative Tiger hater friend. I have yet to see you make any positive contributions to ANY discussion. You clearly don't understand baseball. You should be banned for life from this board because you know nothing.

I watched you predict a Tiger pennant AND predict a losing season all in one year! You're not word the cyber-space that you take up.

You waste everyone's time.

Now go back to the Twins board where you belong.
