So yesterday I'm "cleaning" up my computer and I find this video file that say 68 World Series. I click on it and behold it's the ENTIRE game 7 from the 68 World Series. I forgot I even had this. It was the NBC telecast of the game.

This was really cool but what made it even better was this.

Lolich pitched a COMPLETE game victory on TWO (yes I said TWO) days rest.

During the clubhouse interview after the game he said he got tired about the third inning.

In the 7th (I think) Northrup and Horton collided and a ball dropped in for an error. Lolich stayed on the mound (take notes Mr. Leyland) There was no ninth inning "mop up" guy to get a virtual save. It was all Lolich.

Another great part about this video is the announcers: None other than Curt Gowdy and Harry Caray in the booth and Ernie Harwell in the clubhouse after the game doing the trophy presentation and post game interviews.

Yes the game has changed, but arent these athletes supposed to be bigger and stronger than years past? Two days rest, I still cant get that out of my head.

Lolich and Gibson both pitched three complete games in the 68 World Series. Lolich, of course, won all three of his, and was the last man to win three complete games in a Series (and will probably be the last man ever to do it).

Randy Johnson won three games for the Diamondbacks in 2001, but only one of them was a complete game, and one of them was in relief.

If the Phillies can pull it off tonight Lee already said he's ready to go.

Like I said before I wish he would have pitched Game 4 instead of 5. That's my concern but he's a stud and I hope he gets the chance.

Lolich was the "MAN" in the series. He only had 8 complete games in the regular season though. Still a lot more than most of the "Studs" of today.

By this time Denny was pretty much burnt out. Hard to believe but he had 28 complete games and over 300 innings pitched with a sub 2 ERA. 280 SO's. WOW! Of course this was also with 31 wins.

To pitch 3 complete games with the one that counted the most on 2 days rest is unbelievable.

Never say never but I think Six is right about it not happening again.

Not long ago I was reading a book on Ty Cobb and just some of the things he talked about with players and pitchers doing, these guys of today wouldn't survive half a season back then. Many guys of Ty's era played hurt more often than not and you might see two pitchers a game on a regular basis. There really wasn't such a thing as a bullpen as we know it today either.
I think it is hard to compare athletes of today to years ago (regardless of what decade) because of the way the game is managed, etc. Ty wouldn't know what to do today with something like the DL and players today wouldn't survive without it back in Ty's time.

Just my thoughts.

Last I heard, Shelton was in the Mariners AAA. I'm not sure if he signed for next year or if he's a minor league FA.

I know he had a little bit of time with the big club because it was after Hanahan got traded there from Oakland. He wasn't there for long and as far as I know finished out in AAA. I don't know either if he is a FA or not.

Lolich filled a VERY tall order. "Ok, Mickey, we need you to go win game 7 on the road, on TWO days rest, against Bob %&$#ing Gibson." And he did. I once heard Lolich say that the night before game 7 he slept like a baby.

And always, I have been anxious to get my hands on a copy of that game 7. Any suggestions on where I can go to get one? Thanks.

It might be available right here on MLB.com Thats where my Dad got it, but he got it in 2006 when the Tigers were in the Series, so I dont know how long they keep stuff up there.
