I think this has to be considered but not because I don't like him. Granderson has to intrigue teams with his power, and yes everyone would hope he cuts down on the strikeouts. There doesn't appear to be a strong free agent crop of CF's this year which means Granderson's trade value may be at a peak, much the way Inge and Robertson's value was high after 2006.

Granderson is a great guy and has talent but will it ever all come together? The offers for Granderson might be too good to turn down.

Actually I'd say keep Granderson...but for a different reason.....his value wouldn't get us a whole lot at this point.

I would trade any Tigers player if the price was right. I don't see any untouchables -- not even Verlander.

Realistically, I would say if there was an untouchable player right now, it's Verlander.

A left handed bat with power... hmm... sounds like something we could use.

Move him down in the order seeing as how he doesn't want to steal any bases.

Who would play center if he were traded?

Who would bat leadoff?

That's two big holes we'd need to fill. I doubt we'd be able to get those in a trade.

the tigers would be wise to shop grandy maggs, raburn and an albatross starting pitcher contract so i agree with you 100% now is the time to make things happen.
trade grandy and we can go for crawford for instance

Exactly Melchez! Although Sizemore could probably lead-off until someone better is acquired or brought up.

I would sooner sit Granderson against most lefties versus trading him. It's just a question of who replaces Curtis on his off-days. Raburn or Thomas is not what I had in mind. Hopefully prospect Casey Wells is the answer come spring training.

Grandy gets extra points because he is a good guy, smart, attractive and a good role model. I believe his trade value was at peak last year.

Trade him if a good offer comes, but I would not advocate it after a poor year. If he bounces back next year, value again increases. I would take my chance that will occur.

Only other players other teams would covet would be Verlander, Porcello and Cabrera. Those are the core players and I would keep them. A minor deal could be done for players like Raburn, Laird, Avila and Jackson. But I would only trade them if we could get players of equal value at a more needed position. That is: Laird/Raburn for Lowrie.

With the exception of maybe two mid range free agents, I believe we will enter next year with basically the same team as last year. If we again don our rose colored glasses and believe that Guillen, Inge, Ordonez and Bonderman perform well...we can be competitive in the AL Central.

Avila and Jackson you mentioned are certainly above "minor".

I hope you understand how difficult it is to find a quality centerfielder.

I think there would be limited offers out there that could be presented to us that would provide good value for us if we were to trade Curtis.

If we quit trying to sell him as a leadoff hitter, and identify him as a .250-.290 left handed hitter with some pop the perfect spot for him would be somewhere around 5th or 6th in the lineup.

We have to get over the notion he is a leadoff hitter and realize him for what he is...AND USE HIM THAT WAY.

I don't think Curtis should lead off next year regardless....but that is just me. Personally I think those honors should go to Ryan Raburn until he proves he can't do it. He did okay coming down the stretch when he had that opportunity and at least deserves a chance.

I think Curtis is much more valuable to the team further down in the lineup....and the occasional day off against a lefty provides no harm either.

<<<I hope you understand how difficult it is to find a quality centerfielder. >>>

Exactly!

Granderson IS untouchable and the Tig's should be built around him for the next 10 years. Good defensively, good offensively, excellent clubhouse presence, and everything else along with the kitchen sink to throw in there as well.

This thread is crazy-talk X 10!

I also believe he is as close to untouchable as it gets.

Regarding his usage, he has grown from a boy into a man. When he went 20/20/20/20 his body type was completely different. With the right line-up he would be a solid 5th place hitter. (Carlos hittin' .285+ behind him, Miggy at clean-up)

He has grown from Mickey Rivers to Bernie Willliams (if he develops that way, not a lot of hope with Lloyd M as the hitting coach)

Here, or somewhere else, that's what I think he CAN be. 10 years sounds about right.

???
If we sign Crawford, would you move Granderson to LF.

Too bad he couldn't be the MLB player of the year this year.

Because he didn't do too well out on the field this year.

I have suspected all season-long that the Tigers field staff tweaked the lighting directional lamps during the 2008 off-season -- thus affecting player abilities to see the ball as well in flight.

I recall driving by Comerica Park in November of last year near midnight and seeing the lights on for almost two weeks.

Hopefully the avenue of suspect outfielder play that's attributed to slow reaction time / lost in the lights syndrome will get corrected this winter.

Outside of that theory, I have suspected for two seasons now that the Tigers brass have ordered Granderson to play a bit shallower -- thus the reason for batted balls landing at/near the CF wall while he's on duty.

So I wont blame those questionable misplays on Granderson either.

Not anything more I can add to this thread since I speculated on everything said.

A gold glove caliber center fielder that if he hit fifth, would hit his 30 HR's and drive in 100 RBI, what the heck are we going to get for him that is worth that? Get a grade A lead off hitter and put Grandy at No. 5 and watch this offense move to the next level.
