Two people:

Polanco for sure

As The Palm has been saying all year, we need a lead-off hitter. The best one out there is going to Chone Figgins, he can play many positions but The Palm would like it best if they could package Inge somehow and make him the everyday 3rd baseman.

That being said, he is at the top of a lot of team's wish lists. This would allow Granderson to hit 5th and HE CANNOT be the lead-off hitter here next year. .250 with no walks is AWFUL for lead-off. This has to be addressed. .250 hitting 5th behind Cabrera would bring 110 rbis to go with those 30 homers.

<<250 with no walks if not good for leadoff>> granderson lead the team in walks this year with 72, cabrera a close second with 68. i wouldnt mind seeing figgins... holy cow 101 walks. thats insane. and almost 30 less ks. wow. 42 steals. yea i can see why everybody was calling for figgins. i wouldnt mind him either. my wish list for this season.

1. Re-sign polanco
2. Extend Verlander
3. Re-sign Jackson
4. sign a top 5 market closer
5. sign another solid reliever
6. resign lyon/make him the closer
7. DO NOT RESIGN ZUMAYA
8. resign laird/platoon him with Avila (he is ready)
9. resign everett/platoon him with Santiago (this was a solid position with over 70 rbis and a number of clutch hits)
10. Release/trade Willis for ANYTHING (this isnt really a pressing issue just figured id make it 10 wishes.)

Thoughts??

Great thoughts...but there isn't enough money.

Maybe we can find a few lame GM's, that will take Nate, Bondo and Dontrelle off of our books!

"WOW"...now that would free up some cash!

Thanks to some informed members here, I'm starting to see the light. The re-building could be starting, from within.

Severe, irreversible liver damage may occur next season!

I would be shocked to find out the Tigers sign any "significant" free agent this winter. All signs point to more moneybelt-tightening this off-season. A couple of mid-tier acquisitions (not counting Everett's cheap salary) is the most I expect. Perhaps one new flexible outfielder and one new bullpen member - both with a combined salary not exceeding ten million annually.

I would be as well. Did TB pick up the option on Crawford? I think he would probably demand more than we would like to give up, however we would finally have a true leadoff hitter. Well in the that he is fast and has a good average. He does K too much, and doesn't walk as often as I would like for a leadoff hitter.

Hopefully we can do better than 2nd place...but in any case we did and will do better than the last place many predicted at the beginning of the year.

Same as the past 3 years...
we need bullpen help and a lefty bat.
The only diffence this year is, the changes will come from within.
Our pen will be loaded with guys like Bonine, Perry, Fien, Ni, Figaro, Lambert and Dolsi.
And the lefty bat will be Larish.
Hopefully some of these wasted contract players will be stepping up because it's another contract year for them and they need to show something in order to get another contract.

Is this another option year for Ordonez??? That's another question that will be answered next offseason, if they want to resign him to a 1-2 year deal. If he has a year like this year he would be cheap but if he doesn't meet the option incentives, I think he will be done as a Tiger. I would miss his bat and everything he has done for him, but getting that kind of cash off the books will be good and how Ilitch and DD will look at it, as is business.

I think the 2010 roster will look an awfully lot like this...

Granderson-contract
Inge-contract
Cabrera-contract
Guillen-contract
Ordonez-contract
Raburn-resign/1yr
Everett-resign/1yr
Santiago-resign/1yr
Sizemore-contract/i really dont know
Ramirez- contract
Rodney
Seay
Ni-contract
Lyon-resign
Perry-under contract
Porcello-under contract
Verlander-arbitration
Jackson-FA?
Bonderman
Willis
Robertson
Miner
Bonine
Figaro
Dolsi
Larish
Polanco

These are really just a bunch of guys from this year that are either under contract, arbitration eligible, or somebody we could resign. It's in no particular order, and isn't even going to be close to coming together until probably early-mid january.

Lambert is gone, don't have to worry about him anymore.

Yes. Ordonez has the same Games Started/Plate Appearances option trigger next year that applied in 2009. If he hits one of the specified targets, he gets 15 million in 2011. If not, he gets the three-million-dollar farewell gift.

A decent righthanded hitter (especially one with leadoff skills) who can also play center field would be outstanding. Granderson is okay as a leadoff man against righthanders. Not ideal, but okay. He could also fit well in the middle of the order against righties.

But unless he fixes his problem against lefthanded pitchers, he shouldn't even play against them. They put him out there this year because they didn't think anyone else on the roster could play center. But a fourth outfielder who can play the position and hit lefties would be a big plus.

I thought the thread asked who we would like to see signed in the off season. I would love to see Crawford on the Tigers.

Re; health care, I'm not of the mind that anything is better than nothing. Any time the government is involved, market forces are non existent. I know of small businessmen who say they will take the 8% penalty imposed by the government(which is unconstitutional) rather than pay health care for employees because it's cheaper, thus reducing insurance companies in the market until everyone is on the govt option, funded by taxpayers. The latest bill to be voted on this tuesday will officially cost a trillion(900 billion), which if medicaid and medicare is any indication, will actually cost ten times that amount.

This is the wrong thread for this, so I'm stopping before I receive some serious grief...

How about trading for Juan Pierre? We could do a mutual salary dump with the Dodgers, for example Bonderman (owed $12.5 mil in '10). Pierre would cost $18.5 mil over '10 and '11 (at $10mil and $8.5mil each season). He's not much defensively (he probably has the worst arm in baseball), but he never gets hurt, is constantly lauded for his work ethic, fills a lead-off role and in no way would cost as much as Crawford or Figgins.

Anyone that can be an offensive net gain is a plus. I expect the WS to be a contender with their pitching and potent offense(providing everyone is clicking up to par). The Twins will always be the Twins. They know how to execute, consistently. Our pitching is solid. Our offense is not. I hope someone is added that can help...
