really? we get 2 young guys with huge upside and also they are signed for a while and dont cost to much and we give up a guy who is making some money and isnt he a FA at the end of this coming season? i like it i think getz has some big upside but hopefully fields can overcome some recent struggles..

" 2 young guys"

Isn't Fields the same age as Teahen? And Getz only 2 years younger? In addition, their stats are nothing to brag about. Looks to me like we're trading one good ball player for 2 mediocre ones. WE shouldn't tie up two roster spots that way.

If we are going to make a trade, let's get somebody GOOD! In addition, there are 3 teams KC fans hate; Yankees, Tigers and White Sox. I don't want our beloved Mark Teahen playing for a division rival, especially not the White Sox.

You call a .229 BA and striking out once every three plate appearances "recent struggles". I call it a complete mismatch between pitching and hitting. Fields was once a promising young hitter, now he is a hitter who is completely lost when facing a major league pitcher. Hopefully Getz (a 26 year old rookie) may or may not have some usefullness for the Royals otherwise it is just another case of the Royals dumping salary at the expense of team talent.

This team is a PERENNIAL loser PM, let's just admit it. Trading Teahen continues the tradition of trading away Damon, Dye, Ibanez, Beltran, etc. We always trade our best player!

GLASS + DM = SICKOS!!!

Trading Teahen away does not hurt us at all. I like this trade a lot. Teahen is set to make almost 5 million this year. Is he worth that? Heck no. We can plug Getz in at second or a solid bench guy and we can move Fields to LF or let him work things out in the minors. Both are fairly young and don't become free agents for several years. Teahen what has one year left before free agency. The bottom line is Teahen is not worth 5 million and we get something for nothing and free up some money.

I think that is spelled D-U-H!

I really like Mark Teahen. (obviously my name states so). We weren't going to get anyone "good" for Teahen though. I mean I would love Hanley Ramirez for Teahen but it just isn't going to happen. We trade away a guy that k's 100+ times a year, hits about .270 with mediocre power and we get two guys that are in about the same boat back in return. You can't trade away a rock and get gold in return. You can only hope that we can crush that rock and turn it into a diamond. (How about that for an analogy!)

yeah, I agree with not expecting to get too much in return, but, I will say if pressure made diamonds, Alex would have broken-out by now....We'd have a bigger HOF too....I just don't think this organization is very good at developement right now....We by-pass AAA and put 'em right on the big club....While AAA is a repository for cast-offs....

"Trading Teahen continues the tradition of trading away Damon, Dye, Ibanez, Beltran, etc"

ironically, we received teahen in a trade for 1 of the players on that list.

it is yet to be determined whether or not teahen fits in the class of "trading our best player" ....., but i don't see it. those guys were fringe star players when we traded them.

Anyone who thinks Mark Teahen is in the same class(or anywhere close) to Dye, Damon, and Beltran is deluded ... and that's putting it nicely.

The trade is official now.

From MLBTR website:

11:16am: The deal is official, according to a Royals press release. The Royals acquired Getz and Fields for Teahen and cash considerations.

Pitiful. I really started thinking this team was gonna hold on to players and start building a team. Guess I was wrong once again Mr. Glass. Guess we're still a farmclub for all of MLB. How do you take the best position player;I say that because he can play virtually every position on the field, and do it well; and trade him away??? After 30 plus years......I'm losing faith. Can't remember the last time I was this disappointed in a team. Hope Glass enjoys the money. Pretty obvious tht's all he's in this for.

Paula had mentioned Fields to be the same age as Teahen, but in fact he is 26 per espn.com. In an interview on 810 or 610 someone had mis-spoke and said they're the same age.

I personally do not like this move. They acquired a career .300 obp guy who hasn't been a regular since 2007 and a second baseman with a .322 obp and 24 extra base hits. So if Fields replaces Teahen in the field, the team just got significantly worse at the plate and on defense. If Getz replaces Callaspo at second base, offensively the team just got significantly worse.

Some argue that it is saving us $4 million. This is true, however we cannot sign anybody for $4 million that is better than Mark Teahen. I know some will argue Orlando Hudson signed for $4.5 last year, which is also true, but it wasn't with us. The Royals cannot sign anybody for $4 million that is better than Mark. Some teams can, and in the future I hope we are one of those teams, but right now we cannot.

I have been a big fan of DM, and will continue to be. I certainly don't expect to agree with DM on every transaction. Last year I really liked Coco for Ramirez and Nunez for Jacobs. They didn't turn out so well. Maybe my not liking this trade will mean it is a great trade :).

Man, that's no sh*t! He's a decent player, but not even in the same hemisphere of those guys.

BTW, nice to see Moore was kind enough to also throw money in for two inferior players.

This cat is simply brilliant.

The fact that the Royals are sending money as well definitely downgrades the move - but how much we won't know until we know the amount.
I don't love the move - because I really like Teahen. I'm fine with it though. I will say - I'm a little excited about Getz (relatively speaking). Here's to hoping Fields can figure some things out.

The majority of the unbiased opinions I've seen thus far like this deal for the Royals - so at least that's something.

On a side not - not particularly excited to see JJ Hardy with the Twins now.

Yeah, nowhere close....We don't have any Dye's, Damon's, or Beltran's, because, we traded them!!! I still don't like the deal....

The amount really doesn't matter, IMO.

What matters is that we have this phukking lemonhead GM who comes up with this and thinks to himself, "d*amn, I'm a genius!!":

[inside the hollow hole at the top of Dayton's neck]We'll trade one of our more solid guys to another team for a slightly lesser player AND a worthless boat anchor who already has Century 21 of Omaha on his speed dial. Hmmm...of course (take note, Mr. bell) they're getting the better end of the bargain so I best throw some cash at them to sweeten things a bit.[/inside the hollow hole at the top of Dayton's neck]
