    • Giambi, Marquis Depart for Free Agency

The Rockies declined Jason Giambi's option yesterday, and he, along with Jason Marquis, filed for free agency with MLB. The Rockies still have exclusive negotiating rights with the two players until November 21st. Neither is expected likely to return, though we may offer Marquis arbitration to get a sandwich draft pick, as he is a Type B FA.

The Rockies have 36 spots of the 40 Man Roster filled, and 7 players on the 60 Day Disabled List.

Yeah, no surprises here. Just archiving the transactions here for reference purposes.

I appreciate your taking the time to do this because it makes it easier to keep up with all the transactions going on since it's that time of year.

Sorry to see Giambi go if he does. Would love to see him stick around - but a DH really make more sense for him so he can get more playing time, vs. just a straight pinch hit role with an NL team, and spelling Helton at 1B from time to time. I'm sure he wants to play more than he could with us, and I can't blame him for that.

We are already trying to get rid of another DH, two just wouldn't be helpful

I heard Tracy Ringolsby talking about Giambi, sometime late in the season. He seemed to think that Jason didn't really want as much playing time anymore, and was happy with his current role. He said several times how happy Jason was on our team, and that he loved being a part of the Rox clubhouse. He said he was pretty sure that Jason might want to stick around. I was hoping that would happen, especially since he seemed to have taken a few of the young guys under his wing. Oh well. . .
