I heard he may be non-tendered, which I believe means he will not be offered a contract and will become a free agent. Has anyone heard anymore about this? Could be maybe be signed and traded?

There is always a possibility he will be traded before the tender deadline, but if he isn't, he's going to be non-tendered.

I really hope that Atkins gets traded to a team that needs him and he proves himself once again. People seem to forget before this year he was stellar for 3 or 4 straight years. He still has it in him but his confidence just went down the drain.

I hope that too, 31. I've felt badly for the guy all season. Yeah, this was certainly not his year, but he's given a lot to this team.

It seems to me that Garrett will be a buy low option for who ever signs him. However the Rockies figure to be looking for a right handed buy low option to back up Helton and be a bat off the bench. Since Stewart is also questionable with the bat, the Rockies figure to look for insurance at 3B as well. Why isn't Atkins considered a buy low option for the Rockies? He seems he fit the Rockies needs as well as anyone, assuming the price is low.

Unfortunately, that's not exactly the case. He was incredible in 2006, but his skills and stats have notably eroded every year since. 2009 wasn't an anomaly - it was considerable proof of a trend

There was a Diamondbacks farmhand who was traded a few years ago for 12 bats. I believe he committed suicide the next year, with some close friends/family seemingly suggesting the bat trade seriously damaged his psyche. I wish I were joking

I just don't think he wants to be a back up player. He will look around for some starting roles before even thinking of re-signing with the rox if we let him go or trade him.

Obviously the man had other problems.

I'd be surprised if any team handed him a starting job and/or starters money. My original point was I think the Rockies would see him as a good buy low fit, but I also would think Garrett would see the Rockies as a good fit. The guy to which the Rockies are going to hand the starting job has yet to prove he can hit Major League pitching. Seems if he rights himself, Garrett's chances in Colorado would be about as good as anywhere.

The player who got traded for 10 bats DID NOT commit suicide. He died of a drug overdose.

I thought he didn't do hard drugs until after the trade, correct? It's not proof or anything, but it is certainly comprehensible.
