Believed to be less than the $13m per agreed before also.

Glad to hear it!!!

I think Napoli is going to rake at Fenway.

One year only, though. So, they will be scrambling again in 2014 right before Spring Training to fill the First Base position?

Hopefully by then, they will realize the mighty Mauro Gomez is the man for the job and just plug him right on in there.

Yes, but there may be more names to choose from next winter. In addition to Napoli there will the favorite of at least one poster on here, Mike Morse, who will be a free agent along with other options like Justin Morneau and Kendrys Morales.

I would love for Napoli to have a stellar season, but am expecting less. I just hope he can stay healthy all year.

I don't think .270, 20 HR's, and 60 RBI's would be unattainable, and it would be pretty helpful.

1 Year - $5 Million

I'm hoping for that too. One of the reports on his hip earlier was that it was something that could become a problem this season, or it could hold out for the next 3 or 4 years before it really becomes an issue. So who knows what will happen. But if that's the case I can certainly understand why the Sox would want to shorten the deal.

I would guess there are games played incentives that could get it closer to the $13 million from the original deal if he can stay on the field.

The A-Rod Syndrome... great!

I wonder what ever happened to that Kevin Youkilis guy... the Red Sox really could use him at 1st Base now.

Yes. From what I understand there are some incentives, just havent heard what they are.

"Stay healthy, get more money"... sounds like incentive enough to me.

He's a walking injury waiting to happen himself. Not sure he would be a much better option for the team either.

Considering it's a small list of things that incentives can be based on to begin with my guess would be either plate appearances or games played. There's not much else they could base them on.

Yeah that is true, from what I am seeing if he meets all of them his salary could end up being $13M

Seems reasonable. And if he plays the full season and has no problems with the hip maybe he convinces someone to give him 2 or 3 years guaranteed next winter.

I would think it would have to be much more specific though - maybe hip only clauses. Napoli is an all out player, always has been. Just witness Game 6 of the 2011 WS. The last trait one wants in a ball player is to be afraid of the game.
