    • Could Bogaerts and Brentz be a Solution

Time to get some feet wet. It's possible that Bogaerts could play third while Middlebrooks goes to First. Brentz could platoon with Gomes in Left. Are they Major League ready? We don't know but it's time to find out.

Why do you have Brentz jumping over Kalish and Nava?

Nava hit right handers very well <before> he hurt his wrist. I still remember Nava roping a bases clearing double into the left field corner off Justn Verlander - one of the best starters in the AL.

Yup, I'm still clinging to one little highlight in a terrible season.

If Brentz' last name began with a different letter would he still be considered a top prospect on the same level with the rest of the "Killer B's" (they need a new nickname)?

No it isn't time to find out. Rushing young players is never a wise move. Let them have the development time they need. Just because there remain some questions with the major league team is no reason to start acting like the Kansas City Royals.

I was just thinking about possibilities. Obviously not the best situation but one to consider. Right now it seems the possibilities are hope Napoli signs, trade for Smoak or Morse or convert Salty to 1B leaving Lavarnway and Ross as the catchers. I just don't think that throwing away money at Kotchman or Overbay should be an option. First Base needs to be a power position and Ortiz has asked for bats. Middlebrooks, Bogaerts and Brentz do have power. Nava does not have that power potential. The last option of course is Ortiz playing some 1B.

There are other options. Most notably Mauro Gomez. They would not have kept him on the 40-man roster all winter if he wasn't an option.

Gomez stinks. He's on the roster only because we don't have anyone better. We are in trouble if he is our everyday 1B

Well he's no Casey Kotchman, but once again you completely ignore the context of the post you are responding to.

You are right. I forgot about that option. I think he was going to be on the bench as insurance for Napoli. I still think he is not a starter.

Not to promote a thread but that is why I have been talking about Tyler Moore.

Kotchman is way better than Gomez which is why he's been an MLB player for years while Gomez has been a career M'L player

Gomez wouldn't be terrible, but I do hope the Napoli deal is finalized. There are going to be a lot of strikeouts coming from 1B, so be prepared either way.

From what I've seen, Gomez is a butcher defensively.

randy's not biting, so I will.

The real question is why do so many of our prospects have names that start with Z.

He has a glove for no apparent reason

Maybe someone should spend some time drilling him with grounders....I'm sure they could dig up a Fungo somewhere.

Bogaerts and Brentz have power but are in no way ready for the major leagues. Bringing them up before they're ready would do more harm than good. The team will find another solution if the Napoli thing falls through. But rushing some of the kids won't be part of that solution.

The one VERY ENCOURAGING thing about Bogaerts is..........Every time he has moved up......he has Hit without missing a beat.

I agree............Let him spend the Whole year, getting ready for 2014. IMO, If he maintains his rise, He'll be ready then!!

Maybe in 2013 Brentz might be playing, I can see Bogarts getting to the club June/July next year if he keeps on this pace. Bogarts is only 20 years old, ofcourse that is in Dominican years. Brentz's path looks a lot like the path Middlebrooks just took. If a platoon of either Nava/Kallish/Gomes isn't cutting it by June and Brentz is hitting really well, he might be getting a look IMO. Middlebrooks didn't spend a lot of time in AAA, neither will Brentz if he keeps up his pace. Personally I think the Red Sox should sign Ryan Sweeney back to the team, he can atleast hit and be a good platoon with Gomes in LF.
