Hermida?! Hermida isn't going to put the red sox over the top. I just hope the red sox will put some effort to get great players here in the offseason. Epstein better do something.

No, we have to do better than a broken crystal ball...

Stop with your whining. The offseason has been here for only one day so far and you are already complaining about a deal that was made? What is wrong with you? Did you expect him to make a deal for soemone like Adrian Gonzalez already? If you did than you need some help.

And put some effort to get great players? So you are complaining that they didn't get someone great already after ONE DAY aren't you?
They got Hermida because he cost almost nothing and was one of the top prospects in baseball a few years ago. When you can get someone with that kind of potential for basically nothing you do it, you don't wait for another team to do so.

Another idiot joins the crowd. The WS just ended 2 days ago, all of the players who can become free agents haven't even officially filed for it yet, the winter meetings are still a month away, and you act like this is the only move that the Sox are going to make all winter. But then again you're the type of poster around here who would complain about the Sox not winning 20 games yet 15 games into the season.

Seems you are going to persist to be the "laughing stock" around here.

What exactly do you think this trade means?

Do you really think, on the 1st day after the WS ends, that this is all Theo has planned?

What makes you think, with your limited knowlege, that you have any right to call Theo out or 2nd guess his 1st move of the off season?

If you knew anything, you would understand that Theo is off to an early start.
If you knew anything, you would understand that Hermida at least has a lot of potential.
If you knew anything, you would know that at a minimum, we just picked up a fine 4th outfielder, who will at least be able to go everyday if needed.
If you knew anything, you would understand that this may only be a 1st move in a much more complex deal (maybe), Hermida is young, cheap and has potential. Maybe he's a future trade piece?

Unfortunately, you know nothing.

Sadly, I think his crystal ball knows more...

Ken, you need to learn to set your expectations a little higher!

I just saw his crystal ball for sale on E-bay.

High bid so far, 2 cents.

I would be willing to offer a piece of gum, but not 2 cents.

I was referring to the crowd that is assuming that this is the one and only move that the Sox will be making this winter. It's been rather comical to see some of the reactions around here. My reaction when I got the email on my cell phone last night about the deal was along the lines of "Wow, good to see that the Sox FO isn't sitting around waiting to try to work out high profile deals, and instead is looking to make any moves they can to improve the club for next year."

Usually the only moves made this early in the off season are the decisions on the players with options and maybe retaining a lower level player who could have become a free agent like the couple of times they re-signed Timlin. To see them actually work out a trade is a rather encouraging sign of just how active they intend to be this off season.

I'm thinking (if we keep him.) this deal is more for 2011. My thinking is that Ortiz's contract is up after this year, then we can shift Drew to DH nad fourth outfielder and Hermida can play right field.

Why would you move Drew to DH? He was one of the best defensive outfielders last season I beleive.

Getting Hermida for essentially nothing is a good move.

Good moves are good.

Its an insignificant deal. Its not supposed to mean anything, other than another player to evaluate in ST for potential help to the Red Sox.

Are you preparing for the end of the world in 2012 yet?

Hermida was at one time one of the 5 best prospects in baseball. If he is to replace bay bad choice, if he is to be the 4th outfielder a very good choice.

I believe they will make every attempt to re sign jason bay.

I agree and in terms of Hermida, if healthy and motivated, he'll be a nice 4th or maybe a trade chip. I do agree with others that we need to be active this off-season.
