According to Juan C. Rodriguez of The Sun Sentinel, the Red Sox have acquired Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins in exchange for minor league pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.

Maybe a LH'd answer to Baldelli.

Either a 4th OF'd or trade bait or insurence for Bay not signing (that won't make anyone happy).

He was once a great propect and 1st tound pick, but hasn't panned out.

But, he's only 26 next year, so maybe he works out.

Well a decent trade, just probably means goodbye to Rico Baldy.

Over his career, he has been much better away from Florida's park than he has been at home. Possibly a diamond in the rough.

He's a local boy to Atlanta.

Came up w/a lot of fanfare.

Good arm.

I'd have to check further, but I'm pretty sure he's had injuries, maybe surgery that's slowed his progress.

Yeah I remember him coming up...seems like every year people have been waiting for him to break out.

06-08 on the road .288/.371/.487

Those are pretty nice numbers, god knows playing outdoors in Miami on that football field can't be a picnic.

Rotographs projects his career to be similar to Ben Grieve. Not encouraging.

Ha!

Not the name I was hoping to hear. I was hoping for Andy Van Slyke or something

Assuming he's now our 4'th outfielder, I don't see how you can't like this trade. A young guy with decent potential who has hit well on the road. I like it.

So, this is what Theo has in mind to replace Bay?????

That is not good. Of course, it is cheaper.

If he is the 4th OF, that is a good move, but me thinks he will be more than that.

Wasn't his name bandied about when the Sox traded Manny?

I believe it was until Florida backed out of the trade.

He WILL be the 4'th outfielder or trade bait. Nothing more.

Early on(like when he was in A+ ball) he was compared to Brian Giles, but that was back in 05'-06'. He's been kind of going down hill since then.

Seems like a good upside deal and like others have said his stock is way down. Still tho, i remember a few years ago this kid was a highly touted prospect, im curious how many other trades are coming?

Good move. His road splits are worth it alone.

Actually he was terrible in 08' and 09', but had a good 07'. His desire to work and play hard has been questioned the last couple of years. However, he was worth what we gave up, IMO.

Yes, he's averaged a HR every 25 ABs on the road for his career as opposed to one every 36 at home, and his career BA is 20 point higher on the road as well. And this year his road HR average was down to once ever 22.6 ABs. Dolphin Stadium is 345 ft down the line in right, so it's not an easy HR park for lefties, not that Fenway is, given how fast it slides out to 380 not far from the foul pole.
