Anyone catch this one from our "friend" Mr. Damon:

"The Yankees are the team of all time. They're the franchise that every kid grows up and says, 'I would love to be able to put the Pinstripes on.' I've been fortunate to be able to and some guys have been fortunate enough to do it their entire careers. I've enjoyed my time playing here, and hopefully we can go win a World Series, and hopefully I can be back for many more years."

This man makes me giggle as much as Mr. Nuggets avatar! I love the B.S. he's been spewing for years! I dunno about anyone else, but I never dreamed about putting pinstripes on.

I dreamed of putting pinstripes on when I was a kid... that is the scariest Hallowe'en costume I could ever think of!

Translation: "Scott Boras told me that the Yankees will pay me more money than anybody because I can still hit well in the "Bandbox that Jetstream Built". I know I previously said i would never play for the Yankees...but now I am old, disparate and need that little bandbox built for lefties.

If the alternative would be him being with the RS again ... by all means let him stay in pinstripes ...

Really, he's saying, "please you guys are the only ones that will pay me like 20 HR, because this is the ONLY place where I have a chance to hit 20 .. so please, PLEASE, resign me."

I read about some nasty things about Damon while he was with the RS... in his book he claims to made out with nine women while is (first?) wife gave labor to his kid? Hot air, maybe?

Also, did the Red Sox want to be rid of Damon when he left?

Since he went to the Yankees I'm glad that I never bought his book and gave him any money.

The RS wanted to keep him, but didn't want to go 4 years with the contract. I think they made the right choice. He hasn't been able to play CF for the last two years, where would the RS have put him? And his 24 HR this year are "New Yankee Stadium" illusion ... if he was still hitting in Fenway he'd have had more like 11 or 12.

Fact- the Fenway park right field line is shorter and shallower than the right field line in the bandbox in the bronx so the pot is calling the kettle black as far as wiggie is concerned. Fenway is tiny in left and down the right field line. Where are all of the post season homeruns that were supposed to have been hit in YS? They were missing in action so, so much for the wiggie stream.

He hit 24 HR his first season with the Yankees, at the old stadium.

That is correct.

Also, Damon is not the first person to say that people dream of playing for the Yankees. Nick Swisher said the exact same thing, and he had no control over coming to NY. Many players have said similar things in the past and let's face it, playing for the Yankees (when they win) is a lot more desirable than playing for most teams.

Yeah, I can not remember any kid ever saying "Gee, I really want to wear the baby blue of the Royals when I grow up".

I believe that both Stadiums, but the new one especially, yield more HR's than Fenway ever did. You have to hit it on the line to take advantage of RF. Fenway is actually middling for homers. You can look that up. Don

First, I love Fenway Park. I have been to only 11 Red sox games at Fenway in my life. I agree with most of what you have posted, Don. I have seen routine fly balls drop in right field and they are home runs as the fence at Fenway is only 3-5 feet tall in right field. Yes, there is a portion of the home run fence in right field that is only 3 feet tall. I wonder why they never at least raised the height a few feet?

Responding to your post, you are correct IMO about YS but Fenway's short distance to the monster has had a major impact on number of basehits, doubles (of course) RBI's and averages.

From Boston Red Sox MLB site:

Fenway Park measures 310 feet (94.5 meters) down the left field line: and 302 feet (92 meters) down the right field line.

The left field wall -- also known as the Green Monster -- measures 37 feet (11.3 meters) high. The center field wall is 17 feet (5.2 meters) high, the bullpen fences measure five feet (1.5 meters) and the right field fence is 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters) high.

Well the Monster may rob outs and create doubles, it also robs a lot of HRs too

I agree with you but it has also revived careers like that of Lowell (who I love).

The ball was NOT hit down the line, IDIOT. So what diffence does it make what the distance is AT the foul pole? Bringing that into the conversation about Matsui's HR is as senseless as talking about the distances to the CF fence.

Why, did someone say the old one wasn't short to RF?
