The whole health care mess has been handled backwards. Extending coverage to everyone should have been done last, after everything had been done to control costs. My problem isn't what Obamacare is trying to do as much as it does nothing to stop the extrodinary increases in cost of health care over the last 30 years. Even before the law was past costs were going up between 15 to 17% a year. Nothing was done to make the system more cost effective.
We still have 50 sets of regulations for health insurers, and they have to have seperate company for each state. Duplication of bureaucracy adds up.
We still have no malpractice reform, so ridiculous settlements still exist, and outrageous premiums are still paid. Plus, doctors make decisions to cover themselves rather than do only what needs to be done to diagnose and treat a patient.
We still have purchasing laws in place for medicare and medicaid that allow drug companies to set the price of drugs rather than allowing the government to negotiate for the best price.
These issues could have been tackled before they ever put anything like this in place.
And that doesn't even consider the fact that our genetically modified, hormone loaded, and anti-biotic ridden food has made Americans less healthy. The government supports that instead of allowing the public and farmers to make their own choices.
Bad decisions create bad policy, and we all pay.
