that puts us at 36 on the 40man, so Heisey, Dorn, Valaika, and who else?

I'm not a big fan of Dorn......I'd rather protect pitchers......like James Avery and Jordan Smith.

Upon further review, here is my list of the FAB 4......Travis Wood, Philippe Valiquette, Enerio Del Rosario, and Logan Ondrusek.........I'll list James Avery and Jordan Smith as # 5 & 6.

Why do they need protecting? They aren't eligible for the Rule 5.

I glanced at a source listing guys eligible.....quite frankly, I haven't paid much attention as to who is eligible and who is not....How about listing YOUR Top 6 that need to be protected?

There are only 3 as far as I remember. Ive had to correct myself a couple of times. I think the final list I used was from Sheldon and it was Heisey, Dorn, and Valaika.

I'll check it again and correct anything I missed.

Of course, I'd protect Heisey and Valaika.....but are you sure that NONE of the 6 pitchers I listed are not eligible to be drafted?.....(I'm not insisting I am correct, I got my info from some other guy's list).

OK Reds Reporter says Heisey, Dorn, Valaika and Dorn. are eligible but he makes a point that someone like Dorn might be exposed to the Draft because he isn't close enough or good enough to be put on a ML roster for a year and so might be passed on.

You would be a better judge on that than me because I don't really follow the minors like you do.

I can't find anyplace that says any pitchers HAVE to be protected. Again though, RR made the point about some guys not being protected because they couldn't stick with a ML club for a year.

Yeah, exactly right about Dorn........No team would waste a whole year keeping him on the roster......He's like a Kevin Barker, IMO......Might be OK if one of your players go on the DL, and you need somebody for 15 days.....but I don't see Dorn EVER being as good as Heisey and Valaika.......But surely, there MUST be some pitchers we have eligible to be drafted. Again, I'm not insisting I got my 6 correct, but there HAS to be a few from that list, doesn't there?

I'd certainly be grateful to you if you can find them because I've probably spent an hour over the last couple of weeks just trying to get the list right and I have no confidence at all in it being exact. I think the three players I named will be on the 40 man very soon and that takes us back to 40 with Ramon still a question mark.

Pitchers are the easiest to draft and hold for a year......because you can always claim he has an arm injury, and place him on the DL for the maximum days MLB rules permit......That's why a guy like Dorn will NOT be drafted, but a pitcher like Avery or Smith (or one of my Fab 4) could very well be drafted. (Remember, Jared Burton spent a lot of time on the DL the year we stole him from Oakland).

Again, please add anyone you find that is eligible. I looked at a lot of pages and they all kinda blur into one after a while. I certainly might have missed names. Very easily.

<<- were signed at age 19 or older and have been in the organization for four years; or

- were signed at age 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years.>>

Thats the criteria in case you want to check.
