Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that the Brewers have traded J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Carlos Gomez.

Hardy was a goner with the Brewers committing to Alcides Escobar at shortstop and the Twins have long been a rumored destination for him, so this deal makes sense. Gomez fell out of favor in Minnesota after arriving in the Johan Santana trade, but the speedy center fielder will be given a clear path to everyday playing time in Milwaukee as the replacement for free agent Mike Cameron.

Deal makes sense for both teams.

It sure does....and makes the Brew Crew even better if the light comes on with Gomez any time soon...

I wonder if Walt made a pitch for him at all?

i would have to think so, but if he did he probably didnt offer much... and rightly so in my opinion

Just seemed like a better fit than Janish (who I like). I didn't think they got much for him which spawned my question.... I would have thought we would have someone the Brewers would like to have.

my only reasoning is that the reds would probably only view him as a stop-gap until one of the young infielders came up from within the system... in my mind thats not worth spending the money even if he is a better option than janish for 2010

Walt did talk to the Brewers about Hardy, but they didn't come to agreement, and plus Walt said the Brewers didn't want to deal within the division.

If Gomez can hit .270 he'd be one of the best centerfielders around just because of his amazing defense and base stealing ability. The guy takes away more runs out there than most guys generate on offense.
