suppose the reds don't go after another shortstop this offseason. and suppose zach cozart continues to put up strong numbers into and through spring training. how much does he factor into the decision for the shortstop position keeping in mind that he's never made it up to aaa.

I don't think he can make the team out of spring training. Too big of a jump. The problem is Valaika is blocking him in AAA, who had a junk year last year so I'm not sure if he's the answer. Best case for Cozart I think is to start the year in AAA and kill the ball so he gets called up around August.

right, so do you think valaika and cozart share time in aaa? or are they going to move valaika? i've seen posts on here that valaika doesn't project as a major league ss..

Good question, especially if Frazier starts at 2B for the Bats. Guess we could move Valiaka to 3B, oh wait that's Francisco's. Probably means Francisco moves to left. Oh wait that's probably Danny Dorn's position. Nice problem though. Will have to get to Louisville to watch a few Bat's games this year.

Actually wouldn't surprise me to see Frazier or Valaika make the club out of spring training. Frazier as a Mark DeRosa clone and Valaika a change from Drew Sutton who could also make it....

Like the next poster said, I think we are going to see Francisco in LF full-time. Apparently he's shown promise out there and he was never a good 3B. That would seem to open up 3rd for Valaika.

IF Francisco projects in LF I think Todd Frazier could take 3B instead of Valaika unless BP is moved and Frazier takes 2B I think trading Phillips would be a big mistake he is a relative bargain for his production and a proven commodity I hope 2009 was an aberation for Valaika- he put up big #S up til this season

No one will take 3B over Rolen this year.
