I really like their triple A team being in Lewisville. Although I've never made the trip there to watch the River Bats, I've always threatened to and someday I will. It's about a 3 hour drive for me.

maybe i can get to lynchburg this summer. had no chance to get to sarasota. i looked at the sarasota roster, and there are some players i'd like to see. this is high A, right, a notch higher than Dayton?

Yes. I envy you. None of the Reds farm teams are anywhere close to Jersey. I really love minor league baseball and only have the Yankees farm team within a decent drive. The ML teams that are close cost an arm and a leg so I'm pretty much stuck with the Extra Innings package.

You're in Jersey? How could I not know that after all these years? I'm in Silver Spring MD. Come on down this spring and we'll catch a $5 Nats game.

<<catch a $5 Nats game. >>

Isn't that a little expensive for a Nats game?

LOL

oh i don't know. i often pay $10 for a minor league game, so $5 seems about right.

OK....since Leatherpants is gone and they seem to want to build a real team now you are probably correct.

After reading the article a few days ago, I started wondering if trading personnel wouldn't be a good thing, too. It seems like the Pirates' minors have always produced top notch prospects. They just seem to trade them before they can develop a contending team with them.

Man you really like to open up a can of worms. LOL Can you imagine trying to put a value on an entire clubs roster? The arguments would last until the trump blows.

Arguments are my middle name if I have an opinion on something. My statement was more out of curiosity than opinion. You have to admit that the Pirates' farm system churns out great players like a machine.

Reds were in Winston-Salem, NC (Warthogs) for years during the late '90's. Glad to see them finally here in Virginia. I had hoped they would land in Salem long ago.

Carolina League is nice, fast-track Class A ball; very enjoyable to watch. Lynchburg is only a 7 hour drive from Cincinnati, too.

Your right about the Pirates farm coming up with some fine players. I think ours became vastly improved starting under O'Brien and then with Krivsky. Too early to tell about Walt yet, but, unlike the Bucs, Walt in St. Louis, wasn't afraid to spend prospects to improve the big club. I like that kind of balance in a GM and I regret not being able to see if Kriv <despite my overall negative opinion of him> or O'Brien had enough time to make it pay off in terms of ML wins or leveraging prospects into ML pieces.

I didn't have a negative opinion of Krivsky. I was actually shocked when he was fired as GM. I knew he had made some mistakes, but he also did so many good things for the club. Looking back on "the trade," it really didn't turn out that badly for us. He got rid of a couple of never will be's with promise for a couple of never will be's with promise. At the time, they were productive, and bullpen help was what we needed to try to make a run.

"Overall negative opinion" being that he couldn't get along with the owners "personal representative" and tried to go to war with an old political warrior. <that being Walt>. Thats beyond dumb and cost Krivsky his job and the Reds a couple of years while we get used to a new GM.

I just read a lot of blogs. That was an opinion on a bunch of them, some of which came off McCoys site. He apparently had some inside scoop. <IOW, Walt was probably schmoozing him up> Take it with a grain of salt. I just thought it made a lot of sense.
