A sad way to start my day. My friend and I met Joe at redsfest a few years ago and he was such a nice person and was kind enough to take time and answer a few questions we had for him. In light of what's been going on the last few days in the baseball world I am glad I have fond memories of someone who brought nothing but integrity to the game in so many different ways.

Joe was the one of most sincere, humble and genuine people to ever grace the field or broadcast booth. He has left us all with so many great memories . "Oliver grounds it...FAIR! Down the the left field line! Billy Bates will score, and THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE REDS!" God Bless You, Joe Nuxhall.

Prayers for Joe. People talk about records that will never be broken. Joe's record as the youngest player ever to participate in a big league game will never fall. Joe IS Reds baseball.

A sad day for those of us outside of Cincy who grew up adjusting the AM radio antenae to listen to Joe & Marty in the 70's and 80's. I always loved the West Coast trips when the signal would come in better late at night and my dad & I would stay up late listening to the broadcasts.

Let's all hoist one up for the ol' lefthander as he rounds third and heads for home !

Joe God Bless you and your family. It's sad to hear that the ol' Lefthander passed today. I can remember growing up and listening to him and Marty. No matter how bad the Reds were it always sounded as if he enjoyed broadcasting every game. I will never forget the many "Thank you Marty"s. I loved to hear him get excited for a deep drive no matter if it was a home run or fly ball. Reds' radio will never be the same. Thank you Joe for all of the memories. We love you and miss you. God bless.

Now that you mention it ... that "get outta here, get outta here ... alright!" heard in the background courtesy of Joe Nuxhall as the play was being called by either Michaels or Brennaman was probably the thing that endeared him most to all Reds' fans. He was a color commentator but a Red's fan first. He didn't get in your face about it or overdo it but he acted just like we would be acting sitting there at the ballpark. He was our loyal dependable connection to Reds baseball, rooting for our team for us on the air even as we sat listening to the game hundreds of miles away.

I will continue to listen to Reds baseball faithfully, but with Joe gone it will never be the same. God Bless and sincere condolences to his family.

The passing of public figures never seems to affect me much.

Not like THIS, anyway.

I feel like sh*t today.

I had a feeling this was coming but I didnt expect it to be so hard. I almost cried at the end of 2004 when he got choked up saying "For the final time, this is the old left hander rounding third and heading for home." Joe Nuxhall was all that was right about America's past time and there is no doubt hes in a better place.

Joe was all about baseball and kids, even us old kids. The best way to honor him is to support the Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund, the organization he and his son Kim began, and to "pay forward" for all the things he's meant to us as fans.
