    • Rays On Verge Of Signing Roberto Hernandez

Topkin goes more-and-more off the rails as time is passing by ... (or ... maybe it's Friedman going off the rails???)

"Depth" for the "rotation or bullpen"? With a Roberto Hernandez/Fausto Carmona?

(But ... I guess there are also those people who bet on 100-1 longshots at the track, too!)

Robert Fausto Carmona Hernando was a good pitcher two years ago. Once his birth certificate was kicked back only to discover that he was actually 49 years old did his game slip.

He is 32, not 49.....

I mentioned this in my Myers post above....Hernandez is a great ground ball pitcher and if anyonme can fix what else is wrong, Hickey and company can just as they did with Rodney when everyone was against signing him as being washed up.......So if Hernandez isd signed, let Hickey continue to do his magic and we get another low risk, high reward guy in the pen!

Because of his ground-ball rate, he looks to me headed to the BP. Replacing Badenhop.

Now on to Valverde!

His father was one of our best closers.

Is his name really Roberto Hernandez? Or is it Keiser Souza.

I think he's coming up on age 33 ... but ... even though I REALLY like pitchers who can throw hard sliders and sinkerballs ... I don't see an immediate need ... UNLESS, of course ... Friedman is on one of his deep-sea fishing expeditions ... believing he can catch another big one who will have a monster year similar to those of Soriano and Rodney ???

I dunno. From what I understand, because they're all out of options, it seems they really have to do something contractually and roster-wise with McGee, Neimann, Ramos and Torres ... so ... unless they have plans to let one or more of those guys go to waivers at some point (since they can't be sent down any more) ... I don't see why they would be signing Hernandez ???

As I've said ... I especially like pitchers who throw hard sliders and sinkers ... so ... if this guy does that very well ... then ... he'd be my kind of pitcher ... but ... I really don't know if he's good ... and I wouldn't like to see him replacing McGee, Neimann, Ramos or Torres ... or totally eliminating the possibility of re-signing Farnsworth. ???

Of course, if he can be had at a bargain-basement price ... and if they can stockpile him at Durham if they have to ... why not!

Roberto Hernandez could be signed to a minor league contract. With an invite to ST.

And just keep him there until something happens.

Breaking news!

One of our projected SP is thinking of changing his name back to the one he was baptized with, Alejandro Cordova.

I had no idea...

nrg, yea I'm wonderin what exactly is Roberto gonna be doin for the Rays? We've still got Rodney to finish up and Peralta to set-up and and Jake to wind-up and a few others to keep-up, where's he fit in?

Did I hear 5 mil. for this guy? For what?

Since Rodney has a bow and arrow; Hernandez can release doves.

Very poetic skimp and Hernandez will not take Rodney's job away from him (of course barrin injuries)

What 'bugs' me is when all the complainin and whinin and cryin about havin such a tight budjet has been accomplished by unloadin Upton and Pena and maybe Scott, Stu just contemplates flippin off 5 mil to Roberto to do what in the BP?

It's a sign. It all has been prophesied by the Mayan calendar.

Unfortunately, it seems like I will not get to finish the re-runs of Glee.

$5+ million seems to be correct.

Well, set-up men can't set up EVERY day ... and closers can't close EVERY day ... so a guy who might be able to do both while on-call ... could be a big plus.

For me ... I was hoping that Farnsworth had gotten his mojo back ... and, if so, that the Rays would re-sign him.
