Your team doesn't accept failure? I actually have some level of respect for the Yankee players, they all have incredible talent, and the organization (for the most part) produces good teams every year...That being said, isn't "purchasing" evryone else's top players basically saying you are unable to compete on a level playing field? Sure, the Yankees have the cash, and there are no rules (yet) prohibiting exhorbitant spending, but why do it? Why not lower ticket prices to allow more of your fans (and you have a lot) fill the stadium? Its a shame that stadium couldn't sell out every game, with such a broad fan base.
The Rays were lucky in 2008. Lucky to have the ownership, management, organization, and player talent combine to make a World Series run. All that on a budget! 2009 was not stellar, but we still looked respectable in the toughest division in MLB. Since you weren't privvy to last year's season, I'll let you in on a well known fact in Tampa- Maddon was not loved by all last year. I personally supported Maddon then, as I do now, but not everyone did. That is their right. There is baseball outside of what you are fed by the New York and ESPN analysts, so maybe you missed that part of last year.
Congratulations on having the best team in MLB. The team is impressive. You help make the AL East the beast it is. Now show the country that you can do it without having to spend over $200 million. That will be truly impressive. Show that playing for the Yankees is so prestigious that players will do it for "normal" salaries. What I don't get is the Yankees have the largest percentage of "home grown" talent playing in the majors, yet they still need to buy out the successes of the smaller market teams. Will the owners continue to spend more in player salaries than the team generates in ticket sales?
FYI, most "Yankee haters" don't have a problem with the team, the problem we have is the few annoying fans that feel the need to show their...
