Re-drafted by the Rangers in 2009 as a compensation round pick, Scheppers decided playing pro ball was a better career choice than whatever it is Matt Harrington is doing now. Scheppers is a tall, lean kid, listed at 6’4″ 200 pounds, yet he throws ridiculously hard, hitting 99 on a couple of occasions and consistently sitting in the 95-96 range.

He’s also a bit unorthodox on the mound, what with his lanky frame, long hair sticking out from under his cap and the inability to stand still on the mound. Makes one think of the original Big Bird, Mark Fidrych."

The AFL all-star game is tonight. Anyone lucky enough to have MLB channel can watch it around 5:00 pm. Here's the lineups. No position players for Texas, but you might get to see Scheppers and/or Gutierrez pitch.

Righthander Tanner Scheppers did what he does, sitting 96-99 in his perfect inning of work and spinning a couple big curves. But righthander Danny Gutierrez? Wow. He gave up a single and issued a walk, but struck out the side – with all three strike threes coming on devastating 12-6 hammer curves – while sitting 93-95, and touching 97."
