Stand up if you agree with Scorp.

I vote no.

You'll "fall in love" with anyone they get like Frank wants.

If the return is good enough, I'd do it. I really believe closers are overrated, so you might as well get as much out of them as you can.

I don't have a specific player in mind, but if we could trade Hanrahan straight up for a shortstop or Catcher that hits around .280ish, upper teens to low 20s hrs, 80s-90s RBIs, and has average-above average defense, I'd do it.

I know those are vague areas, but I wanted to at least give a little idea as to what type of player it would take.

And I just realized that with those numbers, I'd be essentially redoing the Mike Gonzalez-Adam Laroche trade.

You seem to be up late doing the same thing. I'm just pointing out the obvious pattern. (e.g. Morton, LaRoche) Any luck with those spousal abuse fantasies?

I'd trade Hanny in a heart beat for a good Catcher.. Barmes has looked very good in the past few games! I think we will be fine at SS for the next couple years with Clint.

I'd love to trade Tabata and Hanny for a power hitting RF and a solid Catcher.. Cruz has proven that he could hold his own right now, and I truly believe that Brad Lincoln would thrive in the Closer role.

Pressley
Walker
Cutch
Power RF (30 HR per year type player)
Alvarez
McGehee/Jones
Catcher (Insert a .260 catcher who hits 15-20 HR's)
Barmes
Pitcher

That looks a helluva lot better than

Pressley
Tabata
Cutch
Walker
Jones
Alvarez
Barajas
Barmes

"I'd love to trade Tabata and Hanny for a power hitting RF and a solid Catcher."

You'd be Houdini if you could pull that off.

That catcher you described, there were only 5 of them that hit at least 16 HR and hit .260 or above last season.

However, if you go by just the HR total, there were 13 of them in all of Major League baseball last season. The Pirates did not have one of them. Now, I'm guessing teams look at the tandem for production from the catchers spot. I'm not even going to look it up, because I'd bet the Pirates didn't have 16 HR's out of their catcher spot last season.

Interestingly enough, there were only 15 RF's that hit 16 or more HR's last season. However, there were only 4 who hit at least 30 HR's.

So the Pirates have their potential 16+ HR at catcher. If you can swing a trade consisting of Tabata and Hanrahan for Bautista/Stanton/Bruce/J. Upton then I"m all for it. However, if you can also obtain Napoli/McCann/Weiters/Avila/Montero also, I'm not only supporting you for GM of the Pirates, I'm voting for you for President of the United States.

I vote "depends on the return."
It would take quite a bit. Maybe an above average MLB catcher and a high ceiling prospect. As for who will close, what's the point in having a lights out closer if you rarely have a 9th inning lead?

Who is offering what?

I think Texas might be able to be fleeced if Joe Nathan can get hurt.

Looks like Boston is gonna go back to Bard.

LOL..

How about this..

Joel Hanrahan
Jose Tabata for Carlos Santana
Tony Sanchez

Solves the Catcher problem for the next 5+ years..

And then I really want Willingham to play RF.. I am still pissed off that we didn't sign Josh.

Make it happen!

What would we have to give up for JW? Correia, Gorkys, B- Prospect, Cash..?

(I'm not looking up stats or anything, as you can probably tell!)

If I were asked at the trade deadline, I would say it depends on the return. It's April, and I vote No. I would rather see a Correia trade before a Hanny trade. If you look around the league, their as many teams with starters with 6.00+ ERAs. The Angels have 2, the Tigers have a few. The Red Sox starting 5 is terrible. Just because a few closers like Brian Wilson have grabbed the headlines, it does not mean that other teams are not looking for starters.

It would depend on the return. It is just plain stupid to say flat out that you wouldn't trade someone. Anyone should be expendable for the right price , including Cutch.

You're the one who seems to be into that, not me. You had a detailed fantasy ready to go.

Depends on the offer. For a good everyday player and a good prospect you'd have to consider it.

Hector Sanchez is expendable in SF since Buster Posey is there.

Maybe a package including him, Brandon Belt, and other?
