Scorp:

Although our views on the Pirates don't often agree, I still read your blog. It's become one of my daily Pirates reads.

Well, this morning, when I opened your blog, I was immediately attacked by some malicious advertisiment, trying to sell me some browser cleaner. Which tried to download itself to my system, without my consent.

I had a devil of a time getting that thing stopped, and had to close everything down.

Needless to say, your blog went unread, this morning.

I don't know if anyone else had a similar issue, or if you just took on a new advertiser. But it's something I thought you should know, and could maybe investigate.

Do you know which ad it was (as in, which spot)?

Also, do you know the name of the company?

I can filter ads out, but I have three different sponsors, so I'd need to know which ad it is (I'd know if you told me the ad location) and the name of the company.

I used to read this blog, but the blaring video advertisements got to be too annoying...

A necessary evil. Without that ad, there's no interviews or video recaps from Lynchburg.

I see, it's unfortunate.

I used to read it at work but scrambling to kill the audio on an ad isn't very kosher for work.

Many of my web guru friends abhor this as well.

I agree. Those video ads got quite annoying as well.

I had something similar happen to me a few months ago, but I think I told you about it earlier. It just kept opening windows at an alarming rate, something like 20 windows per second. I finally just had to shut the computer off.

I always have my sound on mute. I only turn it on when I want to listen to something.

I turn it on mute too, but it comes back on every time I visit your website.

The ads are geared towards the user's browsing and location history/information. So not everyone gets the same ads.

I tried last night getting the computer sweeper ad that Moose found. I loaded the page about 20-30 times on both my Mac and PC (because I doubt that company would gear their ads to Mac users) but didn't see it.

Of course it might have been removed by the company that handles the ad space.

I mean the sound on my computer. I always have the computer on mute, and when I want to listen to something I hit the sound button.

I go to MLBTR often, and they've got the same video ad. That's how I avoid it.

Oh alright. I'm usually watching shows or movies on my computer, so the sound is always high.

I also have easy access to the sound. There are three buttons on my Mac: one for mute, and one each to raise and lower the sound. I rarely watch stuff on my PC, but it's not as easy to toggle the sound, as I have to go to the toolbar at the bottom.

"There are three buttons on my Mac: one for mute, and one each to raise and lower the sound."

That's neat. I wonder if that feature is on Windows 7. It probably is, since Microsoft stole basically everything else from Macs.

I have Comcast and use the McAffee security package that they tout as outstanding. Well about 2 weeks ago my computer was hit hard by 2 trojans named artemis and vundo. In addition, add ware was popping up even though I had the blocker enabled. McAffee could not remove some of it and the Comcast and McAffee tech help said that the viruses must be embedded in my c-drive.My wife after working on it for two days , called Hewlett-Packard and a tech support person asked if we had used any spy ware removal downloads. We said that we had used Trend-Micro, a supposed good free system. The HP person said to use SuperspyWare-Free edition. We loaded it and in a 15 minute scan, it killed every bug in the system. They have a professional level offering for 29 bucks but the free one works great. Knock on wood , the computer has been like new and we run a scan every morning and get rid of add ware that accumulates from each site visited. Comcast and McAffee had offered to clean up the computer for 89 bucks but, we are sweeping our own floors without them. I learned that McAffee isn't all that it claims to be regarding protecting your computer.

Well this is on my keyboard, and comes standard with Macs. I haven't upgraded to Windows 7, but did upgrade to Snow Leopard on Mac, which took about ten minutes.

Scorp,

I actually lost my password. How are the kids doing my friend? You will be happy to hear that I have a job interview next week as a professional farter. I think I will be quite good at it.
