Yankees fans find it unacceptable that Nick Swisher and Melky Cabera are part of their starting OF. This will ensure that they win another 7 world series titles.

I can still handle being a fan of Jason Bay as a Red Sox. But if he becomes a Yankee, that would change...

looking at the free agent pitchers available, I think John Lackey would make a nice spot starter/long reliever for the Yankees.

Jose Valverde is available too I think he could be a nice middle reliever for our team. Maybe he could close at AAA and come up if Mariano gets injured. Lets buy another championship!

If this comes to fruition, or half fruition, I would love to hear Bud come out again and tell us all how much parity is present and how level the playing field is.

Afterall, I'm sure baseball in November in the northeast US is needed to keep revenue flows happening, steriods were needed to overcome the strike hangover.....and small mkts are needed to develop and provide talent for the new 6 city MLB.

Great job Mr. Selig.

mitchBuc,

In much the same way the Pirates pockets just are not deep enough for a $100 million payroll, I sincerely believe the Yankee's pockets are down to the loose change. I am sure in the future the Yankees will be extremely competitive, however in the near future, I do not see them taking on much more than they have.

Just about every ML team could trade a player and shed payroll and start a new direction. The Yankees cannot be so flexible. So if they have a player making $15 million but has lost something in talent, or a similar player is not happy, there is not much they can do.

I believe this year they Yankees are the best. And furthermore, the best they will be for awhile.

mitch:

I teach with a guy who grew up in the Bronx and is a great Yankees fan. We were in agreement yesterday that the Yankees actually won in spite of not having a very good OF.

I suggested that Cashman would be looking to spend his money this winter on the best starting pitcher he can find and at least one, if not two, of the best OF free agents available. Adding Holliday and Bay to that present line-up would make me wonder if they'd lose 40 games all year.

Makes me sick to my stomach. I hope baseball is the first sport to collapse.

Between Damon, Matsui, Nady, Pettitte, Hairston, Molina and Hinske the Yankees have around 40 million of contracts coming off the books. Some of these guys might be resigned but they still will have some room to add.

Also people forget that even with the big spending spree last off season, the Yankees opening day payroll actually went down this year.

Being the Yankees GM must be a dream job.

Except that you are expected to win the WS every year. They give you the tools but expect results. And that goes for the fans and the NY media as well.

Being an agent for a couple of their players wouldn't be bad either...

Too late.

The NHL canceled an entire season. If that isn't collapsing, what is?

Yankee fans like Swisher. Or at least, they did before the playoffs. I'm not sure how they feel now.

Swisher would be a good target for the Pirates this offseason. Big upgrade over Brandon Moss or Young

It depends on what superstars the Yankees add this offseason. Who knows if he will be available?

I dont even know what trade chip we have that would interest them. He would be 10x better then Rick Ankiel or Chad Tracy

What is Swisher slated to make this year? He would only be a stop gap until Tabata comes up anyway at which we would promptly trade him for prospects which might not be a bad idea! :) Suretly someone would want them for their pennant run this year or next!
