plain and simple... Why is it that the pitcher NEVER has to bat?.. thats just ridiculous. i never understood why they have a DH in the american league. Im not even saying that its unfair. I think its funny to watch an AL pitcher tryin to bat in a NL park.. But it does succkk when have nobody really good to put in the DH spot when NL plays in AL park.. Phils need better PH anyways..Stairs is hilarious to watch, coming up to bat with his lumberjack swing. He looks like some drunk guy that charlie found in a bar alley. wha the f has dobbs done all year long.. I used to like dobbs but Pedro is better across the board, defense for sure. I think dobbs could be a great hitter / infielder if he got more AB and play time. I DONT EVEN HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ERIC BRUNTLETT.. that dude is garbage... awful....GET RID OF HIM... i think we should resign Tadahito Iguchi .. hes playin for some japanese team Chiba Lotte Marines. im sure he would love to come back to a WS team even if it was to just sit on the bench and collect $. He had pretty decent defense when utley was injured but from what i remember he had some good AB.

Maybe the NL should just adapt the DH. YOu gotta think both ways.

It needs to be the same in both leagues. DH for all or pitcher hit for all

i didnt respond to the rambling OP, but i actually LOVE how the AL and NL have this different rule. I think it adds more to the charm of baseball, and creates interesting matchups

It forces a team like the phillies to either have a deeper bench or use a matt stairs as a DH. On the other hand, the yankees lose matsui's bat for half the world series. On the other hand, NL pitchers are WAY more comfortable at the plate and as a result are better hitters and better bunters. NL managers are also better at "managing" in the NL with double switches small ball, etc

You need the DH for older guys who cant play in the field anymore. The Thomes, Manny's, etc need somewhere to play.

I never agreed with this logic. If they can't field anymore, they should get paid less. They can only play half the game, therefore they shouldn't be starting baseball players. You either compromise your defense for their offense, or they are bench players, or a mix depending on what type of game you're expecting that night.

The DH nothing but a little whiney bitch rule.

"wahhhhhhh im a pitcher and i don't want to bat"

"wahhhhhhh im a decrepit old hack and i can't play in the field anymore"

"wahhhhhhh im a braindead manager and I want to take all of the strategy out of the game so I can sit in the dugout and twiddle my tic-tac"

the DH rule is equivalent to a golfer having a designated driver (or putter)....

its a cheap way to score runs. it was adapted because baseball was having trouble scoring runs (mainly because of the dominate pitching in the 60's and early 70's) and they thought it would increase ticket sales.

now, ever since, everyone has scrambled for better pitching....

eh, id even use that as a reason to get rid of guys like that. But then again, thome was in the NL a few times in the last few years, and giambi was in the NL this year too...

I've grown up with the DH and like the fact that it differentiates the two leagues. Personally, I'm a National League fan and I prefer the pitcher to bat.

I think it's funny watching NL pitchers pitch against AL teams.

persoanlly im an american league fan and prefer the extra offense and the insane lineups it creates... but it also creates awesome matchups when both leagues face off

i dont think it gives an 'advantage' to either league

If the Orioles played in the NL they'd be in the playoffs. The NL's a joke.

Have fun knowing that no matter how well you play, you're not likely gonna win it all because you have to beat an AL team to do that. I'm here because I want to be. Next question...
