    • BAD POLL NJ - Yankees Fans ?

Listening to the news on the radio going to work 101.5 they said a poll was conducted and 86% of the Garden State was Yankees fans, where did they do this poll in run down North Jersey where it's high population and as bad as New York. I know 2 Yankees fans in South Jersey that is it, they must not have polled our area.

That station is worthless. The northern and most of the central counties are Yankeeland. There's more people in those counties. It's irrelevant anyway.

I live in North NJ (only for work - else I'd be living at the shore in the south of the state) so you're theory holds on that, but my parents and my sister and her family live in beautiful South NJ (shore community). They are Yankee fans, as are all their friend as far as they tell me.

What I find very interesting, though is not really the division of NJ fans (respectfully - there are Yankee fans everywhere, and I think Phillie fans are more regional - for whatever reason, be it more transplants or whatever - respectfully, now, I won't respond to a flame war, not interested).

What I find really interesting is the fact that this World Series - which I thought was going to be a great one, good for baseball, between evenly matched teams that have long, rich histories - has caused such animosity between the two fanbases that now even people from within the state here are hating on each other. Don't we have enough people irrationally hating on NJ (A GREAT place to live IMO) and the people here that we don't need to rip on each other?

This is a kids game. Enjoy it as if you were a kid...

"What I find very interesting, though is not really the division of NJ fans (respectfully - there are Yankee fans everywhere, and I think Phillie fans are more regional - for whatever reason, be it more transplants or whatever - respectfully, now, I won't respond to a flame war, not interested)."

Please wake up!

There have been Phillie fans here on the shore (Ocean County) for decades. It's just that the biased and m0r0nic shop owners refused to carry Philly-related merchandise until the past decade. Before then you had to drive to Cherry Hill or order though a catalog.

You can spare me all the garbage about NY fans having more class too. Who the he11 verbally accosts a woman in a Modells for buying an Utley jersey?

BTW, the same people I see wearing NY Giants stuff were bandwagon Cowboy fans in the 90's, and now they're even sporting Rutgers apparel. (Something unheard of just a few short years ago).

The simple fact is there are fans of EVERY team, EVERYWHERE. I happen to work with 2 Packers fans, a Cowboy fan, a Dolphins fan, a Broncos fan, and 2 Red Sox fans.

Your ego-centric, arrogant view of your teams and your city is why people don't respect the Yankees. Add to that, the fact that you have no farm system, your owner is an arrogant SOB, and the NY media lack credibility.

Its one thing to confidently cheer for your team, but its another to insist that all other teams are insignificant and not eligible for a WS trophy.

I've skimmed some of your stuff here. You seem very angry. Sorry about that, good luck with it.

This about how my reading your post went:

"Please wake up!"

Ok, where's the reply button?
<click>

I'm not interested in a fight with anyone. Least of all with someone so angry. There's no discussion at all with people like you. It's all invective and nastiness. Sorry, not interested.

<even people from within the state here are hating on each other. >

Philly fans & New York fans have hated each other for decades. Ask Amtrak railroad--big nasty brawls on trains in central Jersey carrying Ranger fans on the same train with Flyer fans...really mean-spirited, bloody fights & atttacks. But anyway, enjoy tonight's game, kid...

Hit and run -

Yes, I understand that completely - for whatever reason, the Mets, maybe, but yes, NY and Philly hate each other. That's fine, I do not deny that there's that hatred, nor do I say there shouldn't be.

I'm just talking about somebody from the Jersey Shore piling all that hatred onto someone who first of all lives in NJ, spent every year growing up in summers at the shore, would in a heartbeat move there to not only be closer to the whole family but also because I LOVE it.

I do not live in NY. Never did, never will. I do not like the Mets. I do not hate the Phillies, nor the city of Philadelphia nor the fans of the Phillies... and I LOVE authentic cheesesteaks ;)

Who's got the best: Pat's? Geno's? Luke's?

And yes, I love the Yankees. Sorry about that one thing.

So, where does all this come from? I did not read the other guys post (above) after the statement "WAKE UP" or whatever it was... Just because I knew it was just going to be a re-hash of all the other stuff he has been writing all over the place lately. I'm not interested in a fight - not my style.

But you know what? I bet any amount of money that if me and this guy above ever ran into one another - and there's a chance that may have already happened or will happen - NJ shore isn't that huge - I bet he wouldn't say all this stuff if I was wearing my NYY shirt walking down the beach... I'm just saying... The nature of the forum here contributes to the length and depth of the flaming going on. You know, the whole anonymous thing... Whatever.

Again, flame wars on the internet aren't my thing. I just thought I'd see what was up here in 'enemy' territory, and I saw the "NJ" in the title so I stopped in. Sorry, I'll leave now ;)

Enjoy the games. We've got us a good series going, and to me, that's what's important, not the fighting.

Peace...

What the he11 kind of reply do you expect? You come over here clearly looking to instigate a fight. Why don;t you just call Mike Francessa if you want to hear good Yankee vibes?

You're on the moral high ground? So why post c rap like this?

"But you know what? The NY hatred goes far beyond sports. You even had (then Sen.) Hillary Clinton making stupid remarks like, "I've always considered NJ an extention of NY".

It's your smug arrogance that has to go.

New York is a great city. I grew in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area, went to the 1964 Worlds Fair on a school trip (when Shea was brand new) and to college in upstate New York. Now I live in Northern California--and the Giant-Dodger fans hate each other as much as they did in the Ebbets Field-Polo Ground days.

Peace, yes...but even you hate the Dallas Cowboy & especially Cowboy fans, right? :)

South is mostly Phillies fan and North is Yank/Mets land. Or so I've been told.
