The fielding bible anoints the following saints of 2009:

FIRST BASE—ALBERT PUJOLS, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
SECOND BASE—AARON HILL, TORONTO BLUE JAYS
THIRD BASE—RYAN ZIMMERMAN, WASHINGTON NATIONALS
SHORTSTOP—JACK WILSON, PITTSBURGH PIRATES/SEATTLE MARINERS
LEFT FIELD—CARL CRAWFORD, TAMPA BAY RAYS
CENTER FIELD—FRANKLIN GUTIERREZ, SEATTLE MARINERS
RIGHT FIELD—ICHIRO SUZUKI, SEATTLE MARINERS
CATCHER—YADIER MOLINA, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS
PITCHER—MARK BUEHRLE, CHICAGO WHITE SOX

I wish it was divided by league, but whatever.

For the gold gloves, I don't support dividing up the outfield by position since outfielders move around so much, and most teams don't have a guy who really is a regular left fielder. But I suppose Crawford is a deserving left fielder. I won't even call Headley a regular left fielder since he only had 111 starts in LF.

I guess Zimmerman's range makes up for the huge error gap between him and Kouzmanoff. 17 to 3. Or maybe, the Fielding Bible is wrong. Ooh, blasphemy!

Last year, I knew Adrian Gonzalez didn't deserve the gold glove, and I think he did too. Oh well, it's not like Pujols doesn't get enough recognition.

I'm pretty shocked that Jack Wilson still ranks the highest. I would love to see the full rankings.

Zimmerman? Really?

Hey, don't get me wrong here. I like the kid a lot and would love to have him here over Kouzmanoff. But Kevin made some plays that were extremely difficult look flawless and easy on defense.

I'm sorry. I don't agree with that at all.

The plus/minus system does not take into account throwing errors. That's kind of a big deal when talking about a third baseman.

Wait a second, the Fielding Bible does not take into account throwing? Really? Geez, how do they get away with calling themselves the "Fielding Bible?" Oh, is it because "fielding" is separate from "throwing"? Weak. Ugh, that is the essence of baseball geekdom, and it makes me ashamed to be the original poster.

But speaking of which, I have always wondered if the Gold Glove awards are based only on fielding. Because Tony Gwynn and Barry Bonds both won several gold gloves despite having unimpressive arms. Maybe corner outfielders get away with it, but a poor armed catcher or shortstop can forget about winning a GG no matter how great his glove is.

Another example is Brian Giles being rated by that system as the best RF'er in baseball in recent years.
