Hey all,

I was wondering peoples ideas for the direction the padres will take under new management?

I think that they should trade Headley over Kouz because Kouz has somewhat proved his worth and headley has huge potential but that wont get us anywhere. I also think that they should and will trade away Heath Bell, he is the one player right now outside of Gonzo that has major trade value.

So

Headley for a solid outfielder with some pop.
and Bell for a starting pitcher and maybe a backup catcher.

Thanks,
Pad 4 Life

I'd try to get someone to take Kouz. He is going to get a healthy raise this year and if he somehow gets to the 20-25 hr and 80-90 rbi stats next year then he could easily cost us 6 or 7 million in 2011. Headley is cheap and under control. He is also much more disciplined at the plate. I think th

Looks like we're headed into Florida's direction.

Well, Florida's direction would be building up a solid team from within and some trades and then demolishing the team to start over again. If anything, with Hoyer as our GM, it seems logical we would be headed into Boston's "direction." I truly HOPE that's the case with us. My heart cannot take any more pain. LOL!

To truly be going in Boston's direction we would need an astronomical payroll. I would liken us more to Milwaukee hopefully,..... and not just cuz our uni's look the same

I'l take a straight up swap of Bell for Cantu....stick Jorge at 3rd and they can keep Cement Shoes Headley in LF where he wont do any worst than a whole buch of LFers in the game...funny, baseball is a lot like softball in that your weaker defensive guy plays LF a lot, especially as he gets older, where in softball, you stick the bad glove in RFa lot of the time.

Yeah! Let's trade our closer for a (third) 3rd baseman that's going to make several million and keep Headley in LF. Brilliant. Let's downgrade several positions defensively. Cantu is a downgrade defensively from Kouz, Headley is terrible in the outfield, it forces Blanks to RF and Venable to CF. Thank you for answering all our prayers. Luckily Hoyer is not stupid enough to listen to you assuming he can decipher your Ebonics.

I definitely like your passion for the pads and the fact that you want them to improve. That being said, the problem with Cantu is that he is not really an upgrade offensively from Kouz and he made 3.5 million last year in florida. The obp is obviously better, but he only hit 14 home runs. I bet we could final a better trade partner for bell... But no need to put your opinion down, not sure why the Koke brothers do that, it really doesn't bring anything to your board... Especially mickey's book it comment. whats the point of that?

If we did Bell for Cantu that would not be a bad trade, but I wouldn't put him at 3rd, I would put him at 2nd, have Kouz or Headley at 3rd and open up the outfield to sign a true CFer with Venable in RF and Blanks in LF, Gwynn on the bench.

"not sure why the Koke brothers do that, it really doesn't bring anything to your board"

Not sure why you mentioned it. That doesn't bring anything to the board either.

Cantu hasn't played 2B since 06. If he were better than Uggla wouldn't he be at second and Uggla at 3rd? I'd much rather Uggla's bat.

I'm sure he didn't forget how to play 2nd.

Let me put it this way, would you rather Kouz/Headley combined with Cantu? or a Cantu with Eckstein combo?

But yah, Uggla would be better, I agree

My point was why not just trade for Uggla?

point taken.

but assuming we DID trade Bell for Cantu, which would you rather have him play at?

Assuming he could still play second at least as good as Uggla, definitely second. I think I'd rather Ross than Cantu as well. How about Ross and Uggla or Cantu(assuming he can still play second) for Bell and Kouzmanoff?

If you don't know, what "book it" means how do you know if its even offensive.. genius?

I am pretty sure I DID NOT put down that "opinion' as you would say, but Ill tell you right now Cantu for Bell would not make sense at all! Money, age, talent and your totally under estimating Bells worth if you or anyone else thinks that is a fair trade! SO, basically what your saying is, we don't have the right to express our OP when we disagree with yours? We are not telling you not to express your OP we are just merely pointing out HOW illogical it is! Then, backing our reasoning up with several examples why! Hoyer, emphasizing defense, pitching etc but yet we need another 3rd baseman and leaving Headley in LF which would move Blanks to RF NO way Headley will be in LF! LOL

If logic is too much for you to deal with, DONT post!

That doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to voice their views however Expression of ones opinion without well founded facts or LOGIC doesn't make the opinion valid.

I certainly would take that deal but I have a hard time believing Florida would be interested, unless they've recently changed their policy about getting screwed in the behind and I wasn't notified.

How would they be getting screwed? Kouzmanoff puts up very similar numbers to Ross and is likely going to make the same amount of money. They need a third baseman and don't need Ross because they have Maybin. They want to unload Uggla because of his salary and they need a closer bad. Cogland steps in to second base. Do you think Uggla is too much for Bell? In this scenario each team fills two holes while trading away their strengths and Florida lowers payroll slightly.
