Well, if it is, indeed, Hoyer as our next GM, I am holding judgement until I see how he does in his first offseason as a Padre GM. Right now, I am happy that we will have a GM that has worked in a winning environment that is the Red Sox FO. It yet remains to be seen if Hoyer adjusts quickly to the Padre FO and make some improvements, no matter how miniscule, to help this team out in '10.

Hoyer is a very good choice in my opinion. He has done a great job here in Boston and his work definitely doesn't go unnoticed by the fans, players, and Theo. He also knows how to put together a scouting department, something that may be the most important thing for a small market team and something that KT failed at.

That's exactly why he's my first choice. The Bosox have had a lot of success drafting and developing players.

The early or insider information we usually get is rarely correct, so I would keep that in mind. I'm interested to see when the new GM comes in, who they automatically send packing from this team, and what changes they have in mind for this offseason.
Face it, no GM will come in and leave this team more or less, how it is. They are going to try and win over the fans and show they are worth their salary and position within this organization. If it works they could be around a long time.

From what I have read, Moorad is going to hire a GM who will come in with a plan and execute it. He should be the exact opposite of a GM who would come in looking to make a splash that will excite the fans.

Looks like Hoyer is our new GM via Gammons by way of twitter...

I hope an East Coast style GM can do well in a National League West arena. Really, NG may have been better studied when it comes to what it takes to win here.
Hope it works out.

He couldn't do much worse than 14 years, 1 trip past the nlds, and at least 11 or 12 years of failed drafts(last few weren't his but i'll say they are still up in the air).

knock on wood. but really, i think Hoyer was the strongest candidate and he knows how to build a farm system.

Dumb, what's the point of telling us the announcement and then telling us they're going to announce it Monday? Why don't they just do it today if everyone already knows.

Thats basically my line of thinking as well. 2 world series appearances in 40 years is not a successful organization. Hopefully the culture of mediocrity is on its way out and people coming in will get past the "well theyre a;; a bunch of nice guys" philosophy. Good people are important, Great play is necessary.

According to the article The Padres have not said anything. The UT is claiming that based on their sources they believe The Padres will make an announcement on Monday. In this case the UT is trying to scoop the Padres announcement, but they are a step behind the NC Times.

Oh, actually I bet its because they don't want to announce anything until the ALCS is over.
